The way points of this bicycle route:
This route begins in Marblehead a sea captain's town and will loop its way through Salem and Beverly....You will pass many historical sights, museums, and beautiful ocean vistas. Lots of shops, dining, and restroom stops along the way. Your ride begins along Tedesco St, and will go up Loring ave toward Salem State College.
You are now at Salem State College. Mostly a commuting college, it is world renowned for its quality of teaching and degree programs. Originally strictly a teachers' college, it is one of the top state schools in Massachusetts. It has a North, Central and South campus and is situated in a beautiful suburban location right on the waters' edge and minutes from downtown salem.
You will cut across the campus through the winding pathways in between the buildings to Lafayette St. Cross Lafayette and go down West Ave to Forest River park. It is a great view of the Salem Harbor and Power Plant. There are benches if you need a rest under the shade trees. You might want to stop at Pioneer Village in season.
Nearly 5 miles into the ride you will come to Pickering Wharf in Salem Harbor. It has a variety of shops and restaurants and is a perfect stopping point. Just seconds from the Main part of Salem (Essex St.) .....there is so much to do in Salem. Spend a couple hours in Salem touring the museums and exploring the shops. Its worth a trip. You'll have a spooktacular time. I'd suggest a salem trolley tour.
Your next point of interest is Salem Willows Park. Offering beautiful views and boat trips to Misery Island . Also worth a stop.
You are now on Essex St. One of the oldest Main Streets in the Nation.
You are now riding around the historic Salem Common
