The way points of this bicycle route:

UNSW Thoughtful Foods Food Coop

This is the UNSW food coop. Organic, non-irradiated, local and fair trade foods available. Open from Tuesday to Thursday and located behind the Roundhouse. Range of dry foods available, plus spices, herbs, detergents, honey, tofu, etc. Fresh fruit and vegie boxes available Thursdays, order by Tuesday. Info: http://www.thoughtfulfoods.unsw.edu.au/

UNSW

This is the big bus stop. Cross the street and turn left, then take your first right up Day Ave.

Turn left at Doncaster Avenue. Doncaster Ave has a 'car door lane' with a picture of a bike on it. It is recommended to ride in the middle of the normal lane, as the bike lane is dangerous, due to car doors opening.

Centennial Park

Now the nice bike paths start. Cross the road and turn left onto the bike path, which is behind the bus road.

Turn left onto Dacey Avenue by crossing the road. You'll be on a bike path which is more like a big footpath

SupaCentre

Turn right, onto the bike path, along the Eastern Distributor, but on the right hand side. You're next to a golf course

There is a pedestrian bridge here. Turn left onto it and go across it.

Turn left onto Bourke Street here

Turn right onto Phillip Street. There is no room for bikes here, so stick together and take the lane. There isn't too much traffic

Turn right onto Cope Street. Be careful here because cars coming the other way do not expect you to turn here, because cars never do.

You can cross Regent Street here with the pedestrians and then continue going straight across another pedestrian crossing (Gibbons St) and you'll be at Redfern Station

Redfern Station

This part is busy with cars and pedestrians, be careful of the police.

Turn left down Little Eveleigh Street and follow it onto Wilson Street

Turn right onto Codrington Street, follow it all the way into Sydney Uni

Sydney University

This is the Wentworth Union Building, Sydney Uni.

Sydney Uni Food Coop

Park your bikes here, the Sydney Uni Food Coop is on Level 4, one staircase up from the Footbridge.

To go to the Alfalfa House Food Coop, go back the way you came to Wilson St.

Turn right down Wilson St. Don't give way to cars here, they don't deserve it.

Go through this roundabout and stay on the little green cycle lane on the left

Newtown Station

This is a dangerous intersection, be careful. You want to go veer right down Enmore road (it's more or less straight ahead, just don't go down King St). Cross with the pedestrians to be safer.

Keep going down Enmore road

Cross the Street when the Metro Theatre is at your left and you'll be at Alfalfa House Food Coop

Alfalfa House Food Coop

Alfalfa house is opposite the Enmore Theatre. It is a very successful Food Coop, open 7 days. Contact: www.alfalfahouse.org or 9519 3374

Now it's time to go back the way you came to get to UTS Food Coop.

Go straight through here along Wilson Street.

Turn left down Shepherd Street and go all the way to the end

Broadway

You go onto the footpath and past a pub on your right to get to Broadway.

Use the Pedestrian Crossing just to your right to cross over

You may want to go up the footpath for this short stretch because there are a lot of buses and cars on Broadway

UTS

UTS Food Coop

The UTS Food Coop is on level 3A, Tower Building (the one you're at), UTS. Level 3 is actually underground, so go down one level after entering. Fruit and Veg boxes on Thursdays.

now backtrack along UTS and turn right at Jones Street (first right)

this is jones st. Turn right.

This is a nasty crossing at certain times of the day. If there are too many cars, turn right and go up one block to the pedestrian crossing

Turn right after the little park

Turn left here, straight under the motorway. Clearance is 2.0m, which is a little too high for the UWS Students' Association Van but okay for bikes.

Turn right down Allen Street. There are cars coming off Anzac Bridge here and go too fast, so be careful or use the footpath on the right side of the street.

Turn left up Experiment Lane

Note beautiful bamboo gate on your left.

Turn right on Gipps St

Go across the ride and down Bunn street, veering right

Turn left on Murray Street towards the intersection

Pyrmont Bridge

Turn right on Pyrmont Bridge, no cars.

Admire the 100 year old turning section of the bridge. Don't sit on the gates or the operator will tell you that they're 100 years old.

Turn left along a cycle way after you cross the bridge

Take the left turn off the Cycle path and go straight along it. There is a lot of traffic at this point.

keep following the low road that skirts around the wharves

turn left onto Sussex street

follow the road around, we might as well take the scenic route.

under the bridge

you can ride through circular quay now.

Now you can see the ferry wharves

Manly Ferry

The Manly Ferry departs from Wharf 3. It's $3 one way, concession. There are only so many bikes that can go on, so some of you may want to leave your bikes in circular quay. It's not far to walk to the Manly coop from the wharf.

Manly Wharf

Go down The Corso but quickly turn left down Whistler Street

Manly Food Coop

The Coop is on the left side of the road. Open Mon-Sat, 10-6. Contact: 9977 0177

Manly Beach

Picnic time. It says you have done 31.75km, but about 21 was on bike, the rest by ferry. Have fun riding home.
