The way points of this bicycle route:
Head off down the Flagstaff/Whare Flat road heading north. Gravel road that descents fairly steeply with some sharp, corrugated corners. Road is narrow so watch out for cars coming in the opposite direction
Take right fork
Start of a longish climb up to the summit.There's a locked gate on this road so there won't be any car traffic
Locked gate - beware if coming in the opposite direction (downhill)
keep an eye out for the entrance to the Steve Ames walking track on left. That will take you to silver stream. Pretty technical through tightly spaced Kanuka forest

You've finished the climb! Turn left to head to Silverpeaks trails, right (Sth) to head back to carpark
Access road to transmission tower on left. This also joins up with a walking track leading down to the Leith Saddle and the Northern motorway
Turn right, leave the graveled road for a 4WD track
Short, steep descent to saddle
Start climbing again
Do not turn left here, that's a walking track
This section is clay, and has big holes from washouts
