The way points of this bicycle route:
These rides are for training your cadence the aim is to have an average cadence of 100rpm for the whole route. Target gears used will normally be no bigger than 74 inches, those that are not racing sundays can push out the pace at the front and those that are racing can have a nice tow at the back to keep their legs ready for sunday. Weaker riders can cheat using bigger gears but it is recommend that all keep on or below the set gear of the day.
being the warm up stage riders will not force the pace along this road
still in warm up mode
nearly warmed up
prepair for end of warm up get into two neat lines for chain gang
This Junction marks the end of the warm up . Riders from now on will keep in required gear and aim at 100rpm or above average cadence.
keep the pace and remember to check your cadence
the tough get going, the not so tough bide their time sitting behind waiting for the tough to get warn out by their early efforts
This lane is a bit muddy at times be careful on the bends as there tends to be big puddles of brown water.
slippery at times
make sure everybody is together at this point . Spithandle lane is a hard bit of road for weaker riders or riders that are saving themselves for racing on Sunday.
bit faster along here Remember this is a restricted gear ride don't be tempted to put it in a bigger gear instead concentrate on your cadence ironing out any bad cadence habits. remember if you can't do it in these gears your not going to do it in bigger gears
but watch out for the cobbles here
Dangerous bend coming up watch out for traffic comming the other way .
followed by a slight hill -- try not to be tempted to get out of the saddle on the hill instead use your cadence sitting in to get up this little hill.
don't let the rocket get carried away become a limpit to his rear wheel - you know he wont last long
to get this far in the group but don't get dropped now as the fast guys keep the tempo up on these false flats
now renamed as Boonen's corner watch the fast men they will now be upping the pace for the hill
but beware the is a hill coming up stick with the tempo along here but prepair for the hill
stick with it
its only a short effort but the surface of the road is bad try and keep the cadence up to what you were doing on the flat dont slow down its only gravity !!!
take it easy along here and recover from the effort you put in on the hill. There is a major junction coming up so no point in pushing out the pace here.
glide through this bend and power out - then back in to group tempo
a few deep breaths here as the fast men are let loose after the junction
This is where things get a bit harder. Fast guys can now go as fast as they like as long as they stay in the restrictive gears
Yes I know I have already said that but why are you letting them get away come on faster faster
if you are being dropped keep going see if you can get back on at Partridge Green ! work with other dropped riders to get back on
watch this bend for traffc oh and watch your line for slippery bits too
slow it down a bit here, a slight breather before all hell is let loose
fast as you can now to the Brighton rd junction
if your still with the leaders that is, but don't slow down here! come on straight back up to a full effort.
lets see super fast cadence here
lets see total commitment highest heart rate recorded for all of the ride on this hill
Total commitment is what is needed
This is where you can come out of the restrictive gear - put it in the 53x11 if you want just feel how wobbly your legs are now!!
the finish is the 30 mph signs
take it easy this is the RECOVERY part of the ride stop your computer here to record your effort to compare on line later
did you give it everything or where you holding back a bit too much ???
make a note of your pulse here
congratulations you made it back, next time try a little bit harder :-) you should have completed the ride in "evens" ie 20mph or over. see you next Saturday For Further details contact pocket.rocket@ntlworld.com
