The way points of this bicycle route:
This will be a loop around the city hitting some spots where there is likely to be some really interesting street art. Street art could include traditional grafitti, stickers, stencils, wheatpasted posters, and just about naything else that is in clandestinely in public space. Since, by definition, grafitti is illegal, many of the areas could be buffed by the time you ride this.
Enter Market Square. You can enter around here, although the map doesnt' show it really
Make sure to check out the alleys around market square. there is a ton great art in them, as well as a battle between street artists and corporate posters.
Up on the sidewalk for a second to PPG
This Toynbee Tile has been on the street for years. It's a linoleum tile that has been pressed into the asphalt. These are worldwide and there is not much information on them.
This doesn't appear to be on the Bikely Map, but it is there. You can enter behind the Jail/Courthouse. This is sort of the Mecca of graffiti in town. All different types and styles are represented here.
Be sure to look up at the 10th St Bridge. Way up. You'll see some graffiti on one pillar, and the far one you can see some dinosaurs.
Look up down all around. even look up to the cliff face.
The Birmingham Bridge area is one of the most colorful areas of town.
The google map doesnt' have the trail.
Look out for Wild Turkeys
We're going to begin a climb
Back in the heart of Oakland
One of the most interesting places in Pittsburgh and a great shortcut to Polish Hill and the Strip. Also, tons of great Street Art.
This didn't connect until maybe 10 years ago. It now does. Disregard the Google Map. Make sure to look up and down. There is tons.
Stop and take a look under the Bloomfield Bridge. Walk up under the supports to see an array of art. Also, make sure to look accross the Hollow to the other side of the bridge. We're going to double back on this one.
There is a sweet mural of a steel mill in here, along with other stuff.
Lots of art around here
Baum is not fun to ride on. It's only for two blocks, so take the sidewalk if necessary.
Usually lots of good stuff.
When the artists moved in, tons of street art appeared on Penn. It's constantly changing. Say Hi to Mr. Kraynick while you're here.
A Legal Mural above the coffee shop. Great place to get a snack.
There is a weird building here that is constantly changing.
Another Legal Mural
Going down to Skunk Hollow. Another hidden street and area in Pittsburgh.
Look around. Stop near the bridge and walk around as well.
I don't think it's correct at this point.
Mmmmm. the sweet smell of Beer and hops.
Bridges tend to become canvases for street art.
...as do alleys
We're gonna take this home.
More art under bridge. you can only see it from the trail.
If only Andy could see his city now.
