Since cars get a long buffer on the merge they can get going pretty quickly by the time you need to cross their path to get right. Time 'em and if you need to use your right arm to tell 'em where you need to be (then thank them with a thumbs up :).
Be cautious when being overtaken; right-turning cars often tailgate drivers going straight, which puts you in their pillar as they start to veer right.
Watch for oncoming traffic on the slightly blind curve, as you'll be carrying a bit of speed as you prepare to climb again.

Redwood Gulch has a decent incline and sustained climb out to highway 9, which has a nice descent to cool back off (until you get stuck behind cars at the single-lane light where the road washed out). Takes about two hours.
