The way points of this bicycle route:
A lot of bikes parked around the station and in the town centre which is a good sign. This route follows mainly quiet roads and some good cycle tracks that get you out of the town centre without mixing with traffic.
You are entering a pedestrian area. There is a "no vehicles" sign at the entrance to this street but cyclists seem to use it and the other end of the pedestrian area, in Broad Street, has a sign which seems to say it is a cycleway
Back on the ordinary road with very little traffic. Go a short distance down the hill to the next traffic lights and turn right
Traffic lights. Turn right here, go down the hill and across the river bridge.
At the end of the bridge you pass a pedestrian path on the left (no bikes) then after the next building on the left there is an alleyway with cycle route markings. Turn left here, you are now on national Cycle Route 4
Pleasant cycle track alongside the river, good place to stop and eat your sandwiches (if you have any)
As you approach the first big bridge over the river, the main cycle way continues ahead under the bridge but another track turns right, across the minor road then follows the road around to the right alongside Watlington Street
Here you cross the main road on a cycle path with its own traffic lights.
Here the cycle signs point left and you can go a short way down the cycle track to some traffic lights where you can cross the main road and turn left. But if the traffic is not heavy it is probably just as easy to turn right on to the main road and then first left
Turn left here and follow Upper Redlands Road for the North and East sides of the Campus and the Earley Gate. You can download maps of the campus from http://www.reading.ac.uk/maps/whiteknights-struct.htm
Although you can straight on to Shinfield Road and the main entrance, Marlborough Ave provides a much quieter route
Turn left here through a small car park and there is a track across the playing fields
This brings you to the main area of the campus. You can download maps of the campus from http://www.reading.ac.uk/maps/whiteknights-struct.htm
