St Albans East 1 hour pre-breakfast whizz

The way points of this bicycle route:

St Albans

A quick before-breakfast road ride.

Fast down London Road to the railway bridges

Up the hill past the bridges, avoiding the potholes and keeping well out to stop cars overtaking at the traffic islands.

At the lights turn L into St Vincents Drive, then R into Admiral's Walk.

Turn Right at the double roundabout

Hill End

At the mini roundabout , R into Highfield Lane

Highfield

Tyttenhanger

L into Tyttehanger Green.

Past the Plough, a good watering hole, but not before breakfast!

Past the old Barley Mow, one of the first real ale pubs in the area. Now a private house.

Colney Heath Lane

R into Colney Heath Lane, towards the A414

Colney Heath

Turn L onto the A414 cyclepath and cross over to Colney Heath High St

At the end of the High St, L into Roestock Lane

Bullen's Green

Continue leftwards on Bullen's Green Lane

At the end of the land turn R into a tunnel under the A1 and L to a cycletrack beside the A1001.

Hatfield-University

Turn R by the roundabout, into the Uni estate and through to College lane.

Just before the big roundabout, take to the cyclepath at the left

Follow the shared-use pavement over the A1 and immediately L, parallel to the A1

Ellenbrook

Follow the cycletrack under the old A1 and through the houses onto the Alban way.

Smallford

Look out for cyclists crossing the Alban Way, just before the bridge.

Hill End

Turn L into Hill End Lane and continue past the Brandon bungalows. The AW continues across the road, through a barrier. I find it safer & quicker to use the road here.

Just past Brandon, turn R to rejoin the Alban Way,

Fleetville

At Sutton Rd turn R to wards Hatfield Rd. You could cross to continue the AW but I prefer the road from here as the AW is narrow and the traffic slow.

The Crown

I prefer Stanhope Rd & Victoria St to Hatfield Rd from here.
