The way points of this bicycle route:
Train leaves Newcastle 8:16, Waratah 8:26 - Arrives Singleton 9:29am. Walk across car parking spaces to kerb next to Agricultural Hotel. Take Munro St, L Wynyard St, L Bathurst St
R into York St, then bear L when crossing highway (at traffic lights and Maccas); into Boundary St
R into Queen St. Wide smooth roads next 20km with very little traffic.
L at T-section (follow sign to Gresford). Quite a tiny amount of traffic.
Wooden bridge (pick a plank)over Webbers Creek. You will need to stop to lift your bike about 20cm onto the planks. Next 1km of road is narrow and quite bumpy.
Road becomes smooth and wide again.
Road surface becomes cracked though holding, and slow as you climb out of Manresa Park. Tricky section of ride.
Appalling road with uneven surface going downhill - take care. Poor road for remainder of trip into Gresford, many bumps from cheaply filled potholes.
R into Durham Rd. Morning tea stop at General Store here. The front is a take away, the side is a convenience store.
Road to East Gresford OK in middle, but appalling on edges, heaps of potholes and loose tar. Traffic is light.
L into Allyn River Rd. There is a small supermarket on your left, just before the small side street.
Poor road, goes smooth in sections, with bumps right across other parts.
R onto Bingleburra Rd (follow sign to Dungog). This road is fairly good; it is quite wide and nearly all smooth. I saw 2 cars in the next 19km.
Brace yourself for the big climb that is coming soon.
Very difficult climb; 8 to 10% gradient next 2km, the only slight relief is around the bends.
Road flattens out briefly.
One last pinch here - though if you have made it here you have the hill covered.
Well climbed, enjoy the fairly smooth descent into Sugarloaf.
R at T-section into Sugarloaf Rd. This road is wide but slightly bumpy.
R at T-section into Chichester Dam Rd. Traffic is still light, but quite a bit thicker than the rest of the ride. The road into Dungog is very bumpy.
R into Dowling St
The main street of Dungog seems like Sydney after where you have been. Lunch stop, 2 pubs, 2 cafes and 2 takeaways. Trains back to Maitland and Newcastle if exhausted. Otherwise continue along extremely wide though very bumpy main street, following signs towards Clarence Town
Road fair, wide with some bumps.
Good road with quickish surface and few bumps.
Again, trains leave for Maitland and Newcastle, from a very small wooden platform 400m down Dungog Rd
Poor road into Clarence Town, very bumpy.
L, following sign towards Stroud, then R into Grey St
Takeaway and supermarket here. Fair to poor road leading out of town.
Road becomes OK, good surface with some bumps here and there.
Beautiful river and hill views to your left.
Quite poor road through bends, take some care.
Road OK again, good surface but shoulders could be wider as the traffic increases.
Turn L and follow Seaham Rd for shortest way to Raymond Terrace - 13.3km to Maccas
There is a general store here if you need it.
Traffic thickens as you approach Raymond Terrace.
R at lights into Adelaide, L at servo into Kangaroo. Follow this into Freeth, Walker and the golf course car park. Walk underneath fence to Sabre, then R into Truscott.
