The way points of this bicycle route:
Porto Romano
this road quickly gets a lot of traffic.
Signs for the L'Eroica, a Tuscan recommended bike tour, said to take this right off the main road. In general, taking L'Eroica signs is a good idea for traffic and scenery reasons.
Radi is a tiny village with one business, an osteria/B&B. delicious food though.
At this point you have a choice to go to Bibbiano or Buonconvento. In retrospect, talking to people in Montalcino, I should have taken the right, but I didn't.
No reason to stop here.
tons of traffic on SR2 here
in search of an agritourismo, I took a turnoff here, but didn't see anything too appealing and eventually got back on the climb to Montalcino.

Certainly not the fastest way to do this one, but this was my way. Montalcino is a hill town, so prepare for a climb at the end of your day. Traffic getting out of Siena, and right after Buonconvento.
