Siena Hotel, Reno, to Patagonia DC

The way points of this bicycle route:

The Siena Hotel

It's apparently OK to take your bike up to your room, but NOT into the casino...

Nice "Bike Route" sign

The sign indicates you're supposed to ride up a little 8" wide ledge on the side of a stairway...

Cool sculpture on the wall

You're going through an arcade along the south side of a building with about 100 swallow nests along under its eaves...

Bike/Pedestrian walkway along the river

The riding is slow, but the people are fun to see. It's great to be off the roadway.

Bandshell to the south

Concerts here every Friday night. Check it out!

Cool water park

During my visit in June there were always many people playing in the river here. Some of the kayaking is amazing and it's really cool to see swimmers and tubers zip through the rapids.

Surface street transition to bike path

Rather abrupt, heading east, and a little disconcerting when westbound. The street is fairly pleasant, however, once westbound beyond this point.

Huge viaduct

No idea what this is about. Looks like it's been dinged a few times over the years...

Left turn heading west

A bit unexpected, heading west. On the inbound route, resist the temptation to ride on the pedestrian walkway that winds through the park - elsewhere there are signs which are pretty explicit about no bikes on the walkway.

Left turn heading east

End of the road, when heading east (into Reno). On the outbound side the bike path is somewhat clear, although another branch continues to the south...

Nice lake to the north

Part of a city park.

"Bike Route" sign

The sign points in 2 directions and is fairly confusing. Continue heading east and/or west and ignore the sign.

River view to north

Note the long concrete rectangle extending into the river just west of the bend. No idea what they were trying to accomplish here, but the river has pretty much destroyed it. At least, if you're heading west, you'll know you're on the right track.

Left turn heading east

This turn is not marked at all and is difficult to discern heading east. Westbound, it just appears as a bend in the road...

Transition to surface street?

Not quite sure what happens here...

Pass UNDER McCarran Blvd.

If you missed the turn into the subdivision (heading east into Reno) and you end up on McCarran it *is* technically possible to climb over the K-rail and slog down the slope to the trail, but not recommended... ;-)

Bike path transition to surface street

Subdivision (to the south and west) seems to have very little traffic.

Left turn heading east

*Very* easy to miss when heading into Reno. No signage on the roadway. Note the old, broken down (no doubt "historic") wagon and plow on display in the median.

Surface street transition to bike lane

Works well heading west. A little dicey on the way back in to town, as it requires crossing to the right (south) side of the boulevard and the sight lines to the west are not great.

"Bike Route" turnoff

I once thought the section to the north might provide a route along the north side of the Truckee, which it does, for about 1/2 mile before it dead ends at a picnic table and a totally random solar array.

Transition to surface street

The area to the north of this street (shown undeveloped in the satellite photo) is now filled with houses.

"Historic" barn

Must be all of 40 years old. It was for sale when I rode by.

"Bridge Out" sign

Ignore this sign. It applies only to vehicular traffic. The bridge is fine for bikes and pedestrians.
