The way points of this bicycle route:
Start by heading north on Shawnigan Lake Road. Although this is a loop, the direction matters, since the segment on the highway shoulder is awkward if you ride in the opposite direction. For a shorter ride, just head up the hill to the village and continue around the lake - about 23 Km.
Shorten the route here by turning onto Cameron Taggart if you're pressed for time
Shortcut right if you like, or take the scenic route through the village
Right onto the highway shoulder: downhill and a wide shoulder, so no worries.
Right onto Chapman
Left at the sign to the potter's
Right onto Cobble Hill Road
Left for a short grunt up Lover's Lane, then a nice descent to Cameron Taggart Road
Left onto Cameron Taggart; restricted visibility of traffic coming from the left.
Eyes closed past the nudist colony!
Excursion left to the cidery if you're thirsty!
and then a lovely descent through the dairy farms
and of course a little grunt up out of the valley
Right onto Shawnigan - Mill Bay Road; traffic coming from the left is obscured. Then a roller-coaster grade up to the village at Shawnigan Lake
If you crave an extra hill, take a left on Sylvester and then right on Baldy Mountain Road, eventually rejoining the route where McKernan runs into Shawnigan Lake Road.
Left at the village stop sign onto East Shawnigan Lake Road to take a lap of the lake, or slide down the hill to the right if you're feeling bonked.
let 'em roll down Graveyard Hill, but watch for the side road entering blind just beyond the railway overpass
Watch for traffic from the right just after the railway - not common, but hidden.
Right for the lake-level scenic route, or stay on the main road for some climbing practice
Sharp right onto West Shawnigan Lake Road
Pleasant back-road excursion to the right if you're not in a hurry - pavement ends half way around, but still good surface.
Right at the stop sign onto Renfrew Road
Roller coaster of three hills - speed on the descents pays!
Caution: rowing shell crossing!
