Scenic climb to Painted Cave State Park (about 3000 feet). Riding San Marcos pass may be a really bad idea unless you're in the Peloton but some locals ride it as an out-and-back to Lake Cachuma. San Marcos Pass has high speed traffic and marginal shoulders. The ride turns quiet when you turn off San Marcos and ride up Camino Cielo to Painted Cave. The descent down Painted Cave is fast and winding. The hard core riders use Painted Cave for both the climb and the descent.by BuenosAires
