The way points of this bicycle route:
ESP Across Street
The trailhead off NE 24th St. is marked by generic bicycle crossing signs at a crosswalk. There is no convenient place to park - try nearby surface streets. Elevation 310 feet.
The exit ramp to 130th Ave NE looms on the north side of the trail.
Bridge over 130th Ave NE. Elevation 310 feet, and starting to head downhill to the east.
Spotted an owl on the fence to the north one night...
Exit to 136th Pl. You can cut through the parking lots to 140th Ave NE, or just stop for food or ice cream!
Bridge over 140th Ave NE. Bottom of the hill, 230 feet elevation.
The satellite maps don't show it yet, but there is a new bypass road to the north that comes down from the 148th Ave NE interchange. It has bike lanes on both sides, so if you're going west and want to connect 140th it is a faster alternative.
Bridge over NE 24th St
A shy coyote was spotted here one evening
Approaching 148th Ave NE. If heading south turn right here at the ped crossing.
Yeah, it's annoying - 2 road crossings!
380 feet elevation.
Up a slight hill
Many of the buildings to the north and across the freeway belong to Microsoft.
Bus stop. You can catch the 545 to Seattle, as well as additional buses during rush hour. When it's dark or getting dark, watch out for rabbits crossing the trail.
The main Microsoft campus lies across the bridge to the east. Cross either road by using the pedestrian crossing button.
390 feet elevation
Bus stop. Another place to catch the 545 to Seattle (among others)
NE 51st St crossing. High point on the trail at 410 feet. Annoyingly long wait for the pedestrian crossing signal at times.
Watch out for inattentive motorists turning off 520!
Here's where it gets fun -- downhill time!
Exit ramp to NE 60th St. This is also where the Bridal Trail crosses SR 520 bike trail.
Watch out for blackberry vines hanging off the wall!
This is the steepest section of the trail - descend 300 feet in 4/10 mile.
Pedestrian crossing button to your left to cross West Lake Sammamish Parkway. Low point on the trail - 70 feet elevation.
Watch out for drivers turning off Leary Way. They may not be watching for you.
This new section of trail is not shown yet on the satellite view, but is wider than the sidewalk was.
Watch for cars when crossing driveway
It's not shown on the satellite photo yet, but this is where the 520 trail meets the Sammamish River Trail. Best place to park is probably Marymoor Park (1 mile south) or Redmond Town Center.
Watch for ducks, chickens and roosters!
There are underpasses being installed- incomplete as of 4-08- hopefully they will be done by summer- route supposes
Lake Washington Taproom towards the lake- beer, food and bathroom
Starbucks and Ice cream across the street.
Jump on Lake City Way and use Bus lane unless heading down BGT ...but I head up here
I turn off here to avoid traffic- not really a "short cut" but back roads to avoid traffic.
