The way points of this bicycle route:
Turn onto Elwell Ferry Rd. If ferry is out, detour SE on NC53, bear right on NatMore Rd, right on NC11.
One of NC's last inland ferries. Cross the Cape Fear River or try catching the big catfish.
Option: Continue south on Elwell Ferry Rd. Low traffic, but not entirely paved.
Look for alligators in local streams.
Abandoned railroad paralleled old 74 here. May one day become rail-trail.
Resort town on NC's largest natural lake. Camping at state park, 6 miles SE on Bella Coola Rd.
Listen for turtles plopping into the canal to your right.
Choices: Left onto quiet country roads, or straight on NC130 to Ash. Watch for alligators and black bears.
Small fishing village with big number of seafood restaurants.
