Rooty Hill to Cattai via Windsor

The way points of this bicycle route:

Rooty Hill

(Day 1 of 2 day ride to Cattai. For more ride details, click 'Comments' link). Start at the Car Park on the northern side of Rooty Hill railway station (Bottom of ramp, near the 'Tropical Hut')

Cross Station St into the carpark on the other side of the road.

At the end of the carpark, go onto an unsealed track (Only unsealed for a few hundred metres). Can be muddy after rain. To bypass this unsealed section, go back to Station St, turn right (North) and head up until you see the M7 shared path on your right, just before Wolseley St.

Turn left onto M7 shared path access ramp.

Turn left onto main M7 shared path alignment.

Plumpton

Oakhurst

Follow main alignment on path around to the right as it passes under the M7 motorway.

Glendenning

Follow main alignment round to the left

Follow exit ramp to Richmond Rd, just before the bridge over Richmond Rd.

Oakhurst

Turn left into Richmond Rd. Proceed straight ahead at the Rooty Hill Rd Nth intersection. Richmond Rd has a reasonable shoulder.

Marsden Park

Turn right into Townson Rd

Schofields

Road changes name to Meadow Rd

Turn left into Durham Rd

Road changes name to Angus Rd.

Turn left into Carnarvon Rd

Cross over Grange Rd

Riverstone

Turn right into Garfield Rd West

Caution - Shoulder disappears as you cross the bridge.

Turn left into Riverstone Pde just after crossing the railway line. (Access to Riverstone Railway Station near this point).

Turn right into Mill St (Reserve on the corner).

At the end of Mill St, turn left into Piccadilly St.

At the Stop sign, turn right into Crown St.

At the stop (?) sign, turn left into Hamilton St

Vineyard

At the end of Hamilton St, turn left into Camberwell Rd

At the end of Camberwell Rd, turn right into Riverstone Pde. (Note: If heading the opposite direction, staying on Riverstone Pde all the way back to Riverstone is not bad. Poor shoulders for some of the way, but downhill during that period).

(Vineyard Railway Station) Follow Rd around to the right. It becomes Bradon Rd.

Turn left into Wallace Rd.

Turn left into Level Crossing Rd.

Cross over railway line, then immediately turn right into Railway Rd South.

(Mulgrave Railway Station) Turn left into Mulgrave Rd and cross railway line.

Turn left onto Windsor Rd shared path.

Windsor

Shared path ends. Follow road shoulder to bridge, then back onto path.

Cross over Macquarie St at the lights, then up the hill (on road or path) to George St roundabout.

Turn left into George St. Plenty of eating establishments within the next few blocks (Walk bike through the mall if you get that far).

(Munchies/Coffee/Supplies break) George St Mall (Walk bikes).

Turn right into Windsor Rd, and retrace steps as far as Mulgrave Rd.

Cross over Mulgrave Rd at lights, then cross Windsor Rd.

McGraths Hill

Follow the footpath around to the right.

Turn left into Red House Cr.

At the end, turn left into Andrew Thomas Dr.

Turn right into Old Hawkesbury Rd.

Vineyard

Road becomes unsealed. 'No Through Road' notice...Only applicable to cars!

Barriers which most bikes can get through.

Turn left into Brennans Dam Rd (Unsealed).

Turn left into Old Stock Route Rd. (Road is unsealed for a short distance).

Oakville

Veer to the left for the continuation of Old Stock Route Rd. (Couple of good roller-coaster undulations coming up!)

Pitt Town

Pitt Town a couple of kms to left. Small shopping centre.

('No Through Rd' sign ahead) Turn right into Avondale Rd (Narrow unsealed road for a km or so).

Turn right into Pitt Town - Dural Rd

Maraylya

Turn left into Whitmore Rd

Turn left into Pebbly Hill Rd.

Cattai

Turn left into Mitchell Park Rd.

Turn right into Wisemans Ferry Rd. (Narrow shoulder....disappears when crossing the bridge ahead).

(Caution - No shoulder on bridge). Reasonable climb ahead.

Turn left into Cattai National Park. (Caution - Unsealed road for 400m. Sandy in places).

Bitumen Rd.

Left into the Park. Visitors Entry Station (Bicycles were free last time we entered. Cars cost $7).

Cattai National Park

Camping Area Facilities: Flush toilets, amenities block, hot showers, picnic tables, wood barbecues, firewood supplied. Water supply: Water is available, but it should be treated before drinking. Fees payable. Bookings for camping must be booked and paid in advance. Contact Windsor NPWS on 4572 3100.
