59th/Columbus Circle, CPW

This is the Ride to the Falls, hosted by Susan Levine, Jim Zisfein, & Josh Gosciak, a 5BBC/NYC DoT production; easy pace; 15 mi, ending around 10p at The Battery/SI ferry terminal.

In Central Park

R on park drive. (We'll loop around to 72nd drive and exit at 72 St, heading down to the Greenway at the Eleanor Roosevelt statue.

Bathroom stop. Ride up to the boathouse; we'll wait at 72 drive.

Approach to greenway

R after bridge, VERY STEEP decline so ride very slowly or walk your bikes down!!!

Greenway

L on path; L Greenway

Chelsea

L 26 St. If dark, lights should be on, front and back, as we head into the city's wild nightlife.

Chelsea

R 9th Av. Keep to the LEFT side of the street, as the bike path is on the left, at 23rd.

At 14th Street

Follow green markings across 14 Street and up Hudson.

At 8th Av

Straight on green lane, up Bleecker St. You are now entering Greenwich Village.

At 6th Av

Our green path loses its coloring and is just white-lined, but continue on being aware of traffic. This neighborhood is considered the "old" Village, of beatniks, folk bars (where Bob Dylan hung out), and Italian espresso cafes, circa 1950s.

North Little Italy/ Noho

At LaGuardia, named after one of NYC's greatest Mayor's, you'll see Washington Sq Park, the Arch, NYU on the left; on the right, the environmental art installation, Timescape, and Soho further down.

Noho

R Mott. Old St Patrick's Church on the right, with 19th c. medieval-like enclosure. At one time this was the hub of Roman Catholic activity, going back to the 1800s.

At Lafayette/Noho

The Peace Building, on the northeast corner, 339 Lafayette, where the War Resister's League is. Visit when you have more time.

Little Italy/Soho

R Prince. From here to Lafayette, and West B'way to Thompson, you'll see remnants of the old Italian neighborhood that thrived before 1970s/80s gentrification.

Little Italy, called South Village

L Thompson; X Broome; L Grand.

Chinatown, more or less

R Lafayette. Stay on left side for bike lane.

Federal Plaza

Rest stop before heading over the Brooklyn Bridge and onto the viewing of the falls. The Tombs are up Centre; African Burial Ground down on Duane; Five Points up Worth.

Approaching Brooklyn Bridge

Stay in bike lane even though it is in the center median, we need to be here to access the Brooklyn Bridge.

Cadman Plaza, Brooklyn

We are now on the DoT's cue sheet, and will head over to the first viewing area, at the Brooklyn Fulton Ferry.
