The way points of this bicycle route:
START: Stock up, as the first 45km is devoid of a cafe or shop of any kind, until you get to Llanwrtyd Wells.
Left up ahead for a 14km section of exceptionally hilly roads (495m ascent) taking in the infamous climb called the Gamallt. Or, keep your powder dry by skipping this section, going straight on for 3km, for the Devils Staircase with a gradient of 1:4 (25%) at the start, and an equally steep drop the otherside.
Turn left immediately after descending and crossing the bridge, climbing sharply (0.6km @ avg 10%) along the tree line, before taking a right turn onto the MOD's Sennybridge Training Area. In the unlikely event of it being closed, you've no alternative but to follow the road from Tirabad over towards Cynghordy, and cycle straight into Llandovery.
Take the first right turn in the outskirts of the village - if you reach the Castle Coaching Inn, you've gone too far.
