The way points of this bicycle route:
Cross the slip lane off the Tarban Creek Bridge and scramble up a rough track to the start of the cycle path across the Bridge. Lift bike over or around the fence thoughtfully placed to block cyclist access to bridge! Welcome to the RTA Regional bike route to Sydney!
Not a bad view from top of Gladesville Bridge. But why is it so high? Surely no ships that big go up the harbour now. Cut it down I say, wheeze, wheeze.
Sign says Cyclists must Dismount between Cambridge St and Wolseley St. So dismount here and then get back on!
Another fence thoughtfully supplied across path. Ah well, it is Sydney. Do watch for local residents stepping on to path from hidden gates along the path though.
R at Collingwood. Bike route sign missing.
R at Lyons Rd.
L at Renwick St. There is a bike lane of sorts along this street. Watch for speed humps and some rough patches, and the Stop sign thoughtfully provided at bottom of hill at Edwin St.
R at Roseby, which is a cul de sac, not as shown on the map. Can access the shared path on Victoria Rd leading to the Iron Cove Bridge here. Take care on steep access path.
Nasty slip lane crossing. Stop and look over right shoulder before crossing. Then watch for motor traffic on left entering Victoria Rd
Most cyclists use the narrow shared footpath. watch for joggers and dogs etc and other cyclists. Can use the road if confident, but need to have the legs to keep up a good pace.
Notorious point here where a pedestrian path from under the bridge meets the bridge path at a blind corner. Do slow down at end of bridge.
Wide shared path along Victoria Rd up to Terry St.
Terry St. Cross on green bicycle light. Can be dangerous here due to fast left turn off Victoria Rd for motor vehicles. Alternative route is up Terry St to left.
Bus shelter blocks path. Bad in peak hours. Some cyclists hit the roadd here to avoid all the footpath shenanigans.
Another bus shelter. They (RTA) could find some room around the back for this one on some dead space belonging to BP servo. Write them a letter. Also watch for vehicles entering or leaving the BP servo.
Cross Wellington St at lights. Often some broken glass around the hotel on corner. Fairly uncluttered run up this section to Darling St.
Cross Darling St at lights.
Two bus shelters blocking the path. Narrow passage behind. Bus patrons at least can see cyclists a bit better here.
Cross Evans St.
Cross Mc Kenzie St. Watch for traffic on numerous side streets.
Another bus shelter. Not so bad. Cross Roberts St at lights, watching for turning traffic.
Continue on shared path
Two classic JCDecaux bus shelters beautifully placed to block the cyclists passage. Large advertising panels further restrict everyone's vision. Have been campaigning for years to get the path widenend here. Send Verity Firth MP a letter, Please!
Entrance to Lilyfield Rd footbridge on left. Rather poor sight lines so waqtch out for cyclists shooting out.
Path to Anzac Bridge continues on to left. New footbridge over the City West Link meets the path here, on a blind corner, so watch it. Dont stop here, its dangerous, keep going.
Return to footbridge for a different return route.
Cross footbridge. Use footpath to Quirk St.
L at Quirk St
Cross Gordon St
Road closure here will soon be removed, I hope.
Use path on OConnor Reserve.
L at Evans St. Needs a ramp but can use footpath up to Belmore St
R at Belmore past the Three Weeds Pub. Note: Belmore is one way.
Cross Darling St. Soon to be traffic lights here. Yay! Follow Waterloo St. If coming the other way, can use Red Lion St.
R at Moodie St
Cross Victoria Rd at lights. Take a while to change.
Watch for pedestrians emerging from steps on right!
Dodge the joggers and prams and dogs again on the narrow path across the Bridge. May get a widere path if new bridge is built as the RTA is proposing.
Watch out again at Carey St
R at Roseby St behind the trees.
L at Renwick St. Retrace route to Gladesville Bridge
Try Wrights Rd for a slightly more direct route.
Road closure needs a gap for cyclists, but can be bypassed to right.
Cross Wolseley St to take the official route, avoiding the narrow footpath route.
L at Drummoyne Rd
180 degree turn onto Bridge path. Climb ahead.
Take another look at the view from top of bridge.
Marvel again at the thoughtful fence blocking access off the bridge towards Tarban Creek. Why doesnt someone do something?
