The way points of this bicycle route:
Start at Ace Wheelworks, and head up Willow Ave. Fairly flat to start, just to get a brief warm-up.
Turn right onto the bike path. A nice cruise across the flat bike path (gain 10 feet).
Turn right onto Cedar. We get our first hint of a hill as we approach Highland (30 foot climb). Pass two traffic lights, Highland and Summer.
Top of first climb.
Turn left onto Elm at the traffic light.
Turn left onto Porter. Now we climb Spring Hill. This is uneven, with steep parts. Cross Summer (stop sign), and the crest is at Crown Street. (90 feet).
top of climb
At Highland, U-turn and right back up again, steep but not as high as the last one (40 feet), then a fast downhill, cross Summer again, and back to Elm.
top of climb
Left onto Elm.
Left onto Somerville Ave.
Left onto Lowell. The longest climb of the ride, but more steady than the last (100 feet).
top of climb
Right onto Highland (at a traffic light).
Right onto Benton Rd.
Continue "straight" (slight left/right) onto Harvard St.
Turn right at the end onto Atherton.
Turn right at the end onto Spring St . Why continue down, when we can climb up again?
U-turn, and back down Spring. Continue all the way to the bottom of the hill (Somerville Ave).
Left onto Somerville Ave.
Left onto Central Street, which has two climbs, the first is about 70 feet, and the second is Winter Hill, about 50 feet.
top of climb
second climb of Central starts here (more or less).
Right onto Broadway.
Right onto School Street (at a traffic light)
Another climb here on School Street. Steep.
top of climb
Left onto Summer Street.
Turn right onto Bow (or is it Somerville here?) If you don't mind sidewalk, you can skip this loop to the right and go straight to Walnut Street.
Left onto Somerville Ave. Traffic may be heavy and backed up.
Left onto Bow St.
Right onto Walnut. Now we climb up Prospect Hill, the last climb of this ride.
Right onto Boston St, and just a bit more hill to the top.
top of climb
Right onto Greenville St.
Nice view here! Prospect Hill Park is in front of you. You could be done here. To continue down from the hill, turn left onto Munroe St.
Right onto Prospect Hill Ave. Watch for steep sharp curves ahead.
Congratulations! You`ve climbed about 700 feet. You can't go straight down from here. Depending on where you're going you can turn left or right. Note that you can go left from Columbus Ave to Warren Ave. Google maps shows it as one way the wrong way.

No time to train? This is a very short training ride that gets as much punishment as possible (about 700 feet of climbing) with these puny Somerville Hills
