The way points of this bicycle route:
Originally we were going to ride down South Beach Road and the Tyagarah Management Trail but haveing tried it on the rest day we found it to be too difficult because of long stretches of soft sand without much opportunity to go around so we took some locals advice about riding on the beach.
****If the beach is not an option go south along the old Pacific Highway and onto the Pacific Highway (Expressway). Turn right onto Ewingsdale Road and continue to Johnson Street.***
Getting on the beach here minimises the amount of soft sand you have to go through.
Start riding. Have fun and look for whales! 10 - 15 km/h is quite reasonable.
The closer you get to Byron Bay the more likely you will come acroass nudists
The river crossing is no more than a bump. When we crossed the water was only 2 - 3 cm deep.
This is the first real opportunity to exit the beach. Because of beach erosion we couldn't get around some rocks further up. It's a bit of effort to get out here but its a small price to pay.
