The way points of this bicycle route:
You could choose to use the cycle path here to avoid the two roundabouts.
Although you need to turn right off the dual carriageway here, it's actually quite safe in my experience.
Junction of Vicarage Lane and Cuerdale Lane.
A winding fairly steep road with passing places on the approach to Roach Bridge.
Take the bridge over the River Darwen by the paper mill and weir.
The road continues to the left.
Follow the road as it bends to the right and becomes Gib Lane
There's a pub here. Turn left up Hoghton Lane (the A675) towards Bolton.
Turn right onto the B5256 (Sandy Lane) towards Leyland
Bear right, continuing along Sandy Lane
Gaze down on the delights of the M65
Bear right at the roundabout
Turn onto the A6 towards Preston.
It's probably best to ignore the cycle lane here as it takes you the wrong way round the roundabout into opposition with a lot of motorway traffic.
Turn right at the lights onto Station Road, Bamber Bridge
Level crossing
Turn left at the lights onto Brownedge Road
At the end of the road, at the traffic lights, turn right onto Leyland Road
As the road leaves Middleforth, cross the cobbled foot and cycle-bridge over the Ribble.
Fishergate Hill is not open to cyclists. Head up Strand Road, watching out for the level crossing.
Dismount (by law) to climb through the park.
Turn right onto Marsh Lane (A59). Follow the A59 (signposted for Blackburn, Clitheroe) back to the start.
Dual carriageway
Continue as the road joins the A6 for a short distance.
Turn left onto New Hall Lane at the traffic lights.
At busy times, you may prefer to turn right here to cycle along Fishwick Parade which is full of speed bumps but is usually quiet.
