The way points of this bicycle route:
From Shoreham Airport, follow the Coombes Lane north through Steyning and Bramber before turning east to Fulking. Take Clappers Lane, and briefly join the A281 before heading north to Sayers Common.
Cross above the A23 and head north along parallel Pookbourne Lane. Bear right at the top towards Cuckfield and then for Balcombe along the road which parallels the mainline railway.
Head east across the reservoir to Ardingly, and then north-east on small lanes to West Hoathly and Sharpthorne where you swing south again to Horsted Keynes.
Descend right to the station, then climb to Splaynes Green, Fletching and Piltdown, crossing the A272. Pass the Lavender Line at Isfield and cross the A26, following signs to Bentley Wildfowl.
Continue on to Ringmer but don't go into the village; instead head north joining the A26 briefly before passing through Barcombe Green to Chiltington.
Follow quiet lanes through East Chiltington and Plumpton to Westmeston, detouring through Ditchling.
Climb up and over Ditchling Beacon and then follow the road down to the coast, crossing high above the A27 for a long descent into town.
Head for the Pier, and then turn right, following the NCN2 signs along the seafront, to Shoreham Harbour, over the lock gates and then along the coast road to journey's end at Shoreham-by-Sea.

CLASSIC: Solitary lanes, panoramic views, an art deco airport and Eccles cakes on the Bluebell line.... Just plenty of Sussex countryside, several attractions to keep your mind occupied and, best of all, multiple opportunities for refreshment stops.
CLASSIC ride with just one tough (but oligatory to say you have!) climb of Ditchling Beacon towards the end, so compact is fine but not essential. Rolling Sussex Weald (one climb) but a few deceptively tough drags.
