The way points of this bicycle route:
Parking is open from sun rise to sun set. There is plenty of free parking.
There is a travel visiting center that has clean bathrooms. The welcome center also has clean bathrooms
The Dismal Swamp Canal Welcome Center is the only Welcome Center in the continental U. S. greeting visitors by both a major highway and an historic waterway. Stop in, there are things for all ages.
There are several places to stop and enjoy natural at its best.
The off-road rout ends at this section. Traffic is slow. You will noticed there is a designated bike route. It is approximately 3 feet wide. Ride with cautious.
About ¼ mile down the road you will see a county Trash collection area. You be riding on the opposite side of the street, not to dangers’ other then for trucks/ cars pulling trailers.
The Bike rout turns off the main road on to a back road. Little to no traffic on this road, but still be cautious.
The city is very small. Once you arrive at Main Street you will notice you have a choice to go North or South. If you decide to go South, PLEASE walk your bicycle over the bridge. The road is to narrow to ride across and on the other side of the walkway is a large drop off. If you want to rest before you return back, ride down Canal Drive. There are several places you can stop, relax and enjoy the ships that pass by.

The bike path is off road from the Welcome Center to route US 17 bridges (Over pass). This portion is safe for all ages. From route US 17 bridges (Over pass) to South Mills, there is a designated bike route (3 feet wide) along the road. Vehicle traffic is minimal, but still unsafe for children, because the vehicles that use it may travel faster then posted speed limit
