to cross the river on the sidewalk of the Mid-Hudson Bridge (shortens route by 1.5 miles): Turn Left onto sidewalk and go south a very short ways, turn Right on sidewalk and go West toward Hudson River. Soon dismount to cross Entrance / Exit ramps and get on North sidewalk of Mid-Hudson Bridge (not the roadway), and go about 0.6 mile on sidewalk west across River. After crossing the Hudson River, continue onto a road which is not the main traffic approach road for the bridge, and starts by passing through Iorio Park -- going somewhat north, later becomes Haviland Rd and rejoins the main route.

traffic light at Main St -- this route continues Straight across. Variation: to go to Poughkeepsie train station (Metro North + Amtrak service) - or to visit waterfront could turn Left down hill

bear Right to shortest way to the Walkway up a wide asphalt path going roughly west diagonally away from Parker Ave / rt 9G

continue on Walkway roughly west a ways to reach the Hudson River, then across the river to Highland over on the west side
