The way points of this bicycle route:
A good starting point for this ride is New Addington Tram Stop, I normally start from a mate's house but that probably wouldn't help you.
Go round the roundabout
Just before the tram tracks and the junction with Lodge Lane there is a path on the left which follows down the hill.
The path is tarmac but is poorly maintained and very bumpy, there are also some sections with loads of gravel. You can pick up some great speed down here though.
At the bottom of the hill follow it round to the left.
We normally stay on the pavement down here.
On the exit of the roundabout there is a pathway over the grass on your left.
There are two parts to Featherbed Lane at the bottom of the hill, the main road and a section that goes past the houses. Follow the later to the top.
When the part of Featherbed Lane by the houses finishes cross the main road part of Featherbed Lane up Court Wood Lane (effectively turn right off Featherbed Lane when you get to the Forestdale sign).
At the roundabout at the top go round and take the footpath on the far side.
When you get to the end of the tarmac you want the middle path (i.e. neither right or left). Change down here as the next bit will warrant a low gear.
At Old Farleigh Road turn left.
Just past the gap in the fence a footpath starts just to the right of the road.
The later half of the footpath is one of the few places which really makes me want full suspension. It's tarmac but seriously bumpy.
Join the road again at the end of the path.
Turn left into Harrow Road.
At the first crossroads, turn right on to Chesham Road.
Shortly after the junction with Chelsham Common Road and Chesham Road turn left on to the bridle path marked Cycle Route 21.
When you get to the end of the path follow on down Rogers Lane.
Cross Limpsfield Road carefully as it is a pretty busy main road. Follow down High Lane opposite.
Turn off High Lane right on to Plantation Lane and follow it along the top of the golf course. For a photo that gives an overview of the golf course section check out http://www.flickr.com/photos/uncleriotous/2134348083/
At the end the path gets fairly steep and there are some posts just before you get to the driveway past the golf course club house.
Follow past the club house and up the drive nearly to the road.
Just before the road turn right on to the bridle way.
Go through the gate that leads up to the road, cross the road and go down Park Ley Road.
Turn right off the footpath from Park Ley Road down to Woldingham Road.
Careful at the bottom of the path as you join the road and then turn off right shortly afterwards.
Turn left on to the private driveway and follow it up the hill. It may not be steep but it does go on for a long way.
You can take a left up the hill and then turn right at the top which is a longer route but with a less severe climb at the end. If you want a good climb though keep on going.
You're on cycle route 21 so you're fine to ride through the school grounds.
At the gate follow the path left up the hill.
At the top of the slope follow the path into the woods. SELECT A VERY LOW GEAR NOW (don't believe me, check out the elevation profile). From here just keep going up.
At the end turn left on to Grangers Hill
At the end of the road turn right on to The Ridge.
At the top of the hill by the quary there is a good place to stop and a great view out of the M25 and the downs.
When you reach the end of the The Ridge turn left on to Croydon Road. You can take the main road or a slightly grotty cycle path alongside the road.
I can thoroughly recommend Botley Hill Farm as a great hostlery. They do great food and often have bands on.
Definitely a good stop off point.
Back to the beginning.
