The way points of this bicycle route:
Starting your ride from Mount Vernon, the historic home of George Washington.
George Washington's Grist Mill still stands on your right.
You will now enter Ft. Belvoir. Meeres Rd. has been closed to vehicular traffic since 9/11 and a gate spans the roadway. Simply walk your bike around the gate and continue up the hill. It's not a bad idea to carry a gov't issued ID for this ride.
You have now exited Ft. Belvoir. Follow the paved bike trail, located on the right side of Fairfax County Pkwy.
Telegraph Rd. has a bike lane in both directions.
Wait for a red light before crossing Rt. 1 as traffic moves rather briskly in this neck of the woods. Old Colchester Rd. is where the fun begins. A church George Washington and George Mason attended is on the right as you cross over to Old Colchester.
Look to the right for a great view of Mount Vernon.
End back at Mount Vernon.
