Turn left.
Tight bends and a short hill here. Take care.
Straight ahead at the crossroads
This is the highest part of the route. Turn left at the crossroads.
Pass Windscar Reservoir. Very popular with dinghy sailors and fishermen
Turn left at the T-junction before Dunford.
This lane runs parallel to the main line track between Sheffield and Manchester [now disused]. Some of the buildings to be seen particularly around Townhead are left over from that era.
Turn Right on to the Holmfirth - Penistone road
Turn right. Take care when joining this road as the old school on your right obscures the view of on-coming traffic
Either use the Old Manchester Raod to avoid the roundabout or simply turn left on the A628 towards Penistone and Barnsley.
Turn off here onto Gilbert Hill [unsignposted]
Turn left at Langsett to join a busy main road for a few hundred yards. There is a cafe located at Langsett.
Turn left for a steady hill climb up a narrow lane. Not much traffic here.
Turn right at the top
rurn left into Back Lane
Downhill towards Oxspring and Roughbirchworth
Cross the main road and go towards Silkstone Common
Straight on at The Travellers' Rest crossroads
Turn left to go down Cone Lane to Silkstone
Cross the main road and go through the village and find a left turn, adjacent to the church, leading to Cawthorne
Keep left to keep main road riding down to a minimum. Turn left on meeting the main road.
Turn right towards Cannon Hall.
Cafe available at the Cannon Hall Garden Centre
Keep going uphill until reaching High Hoyland
Turn left and left again into Hollin House Lane
Cross the main road and follow lane to Lower then Upper Denby
At western edge of Upper Denby turn right
turn right onto main road - A629
turn right again to finish

High Flatts, Victoria, Dunford, Langsett, Silkstone, Cawthorne, High Hoyland, Dunkirk Inn, Upper Denby. Circles around Penistone. A taster of millstone grit country. Very little time is spent on main roads; over 90% of the route is on lanes.
