Mayo Bldg. to Bradfordville Target Afternoon Shady Commute
by bdpblur

The way points of this bicycle route:

Downtown

Out the building and coast downhill to Meridian St.

Left onto Meridian St.

Take the lane to cross Tennessee and if you can keep the lane until you veer right onto Miccosukee

Make sure the lane is clear and take it for the left onto Martin. I take Martin and Ingleside just to stay off Miccosukee.

Left onto Mitchell

If a car does not activate the lights at 6th and 7th Ave; you have to cross on a Red light - be carefull!

Betton

Take a right onto Betton

The cars on Betton are usually lined up waiting for the light at Thomasville and will let you through to turn left onto Trescott. I sometimes take the park to park trail behind the Goodwill store instead of Trescott.

Take a left onto the paved path thru McCord Park.

Left onto Armistead and up a short hill to the traffic light.

Thomasville is hard to cross down at Waverly, so I cross with the light at Armistead and take the broken up paved path that parallels Thomasville. Look for cars turning off of Thomasville and coming to Thomasville as you cross over side streets.

Waverly

Waverly is low traffic and shady

Take a right onto Lothian to find even less traffic.

Take a right onto Windsor Way.

Middlebrooks keeps you off of Live Oak just a little longer.

Right onto Live Oak Plantation. Most cars will give you plenty of room on Live Oak.

I make sure the lane is clear and take it to prepare for the upcoming left hand turn.

Take a left onto Timberlane School Rd. Make sure the cars on Timberlane School Rd see you; so they won't take a left onto Live Oak until you have cleared.

Hopefully, no cars are coming down Timberlane Rd. so you can do a running stop and not lose your momentum for the hill up Timberlane.

Martin Hurst avoid the congestion with many cars entering and exiting the stores on Market St.

There are gates with locks on them; but I have never seen them shut. If they are, you can shoot through on the right.

I go off road around the retention pond to avoid the intersection at Maclay and Maclay Commernce. The customers from McDonalds are too busy stuffing their faces to see you and it is easier to enter Maclay Blvd after the retention pond.

You MUST take the lane after Village Square Blvd.!! Maclay Blvd. is too tight with the median and the cars will try to pass you. Take the lane and keep it all the way to Maclay Rd.

Maclay Rd has a bike lane; but be careful switching over on it near the traffic light.

I go through Killearn Estates to keep to the shady roads and to add some miles.

Killearn Estates

Most cars on Killarney Way will give you plenty of room. But watch out for those cars coming onto Kilearney Way; I make sure I get eye contact at the cross-roads.

I cross over and follow Killarney Plaza DR rather than trying my luck in the round-about or going through the Circle K parking lot.

Shamrock St is wide and the cars give you plenty of room.

Take a left onto Shannon Lake Dr. Again I make sure the cars at the intersection see me before I commit to the turn.

I found the round-about safer than cutting through the Old Food Lion parking lot. But I make sure I get eye contact with drivers trying to enter the round-about.

This is a tight right lane at the light. If there are cars at the light, I take the lane behind the last car and let any one behind me know I am planning to take a right onto Velda Dairy.

Most cars on Velda Dairy will give you room; but teenage boys in pickup trucks like to buzz you close.

I take the lane prior to approaching the intersection and get on the left side of the lane to prepare for the turn; but some cars like to cut the corner short when turning left off of Bradfordville Rd.

There is a bike lane after the short climb; but it is usually full of glass.

Right into the Target parking lot.

I usually can beat the bus back.

Route Details

I take the 80X into work with my bike on the bus rack and ride the bike home. Instead of the straight shot up Thomasville I weave thruough Waverly and Killearn Estate for the shade and reduced traffic flow.
