The way points of this bicycle route:

There's a McDonalds and Wawa on this corner.

This is a pretty steep hill that takes you into a neighborhood where you can do a couple loops with hills.

Now you're on the main highway. Shoulder is ok. There will be a decent amount of traffic, but the speed limit is low. I felt pretty safe.

Lafayette Rd is a little hard to spot. This is a very well-to-do neighborhood with little traffic and some good climbs.

this is a pretty steep hill, but short

This is a good neighborhood for climbing. Didn't have time (err, legs) to explore other streets but I'm sure that all are nice.

back to rt 23. Not a bad road but next time I'd probably try Rose Glen Rd to Mill Creek Rd.

There's a Wawa on this corner.

Back into city traffic. Cars seem pretty used to seeing cyclists and nobody ran us off the road.

"the wall" - not as steep a I was expecting, cars parked along both sides made it narrow, especially with two-way traffic. good thing it's steep and in a neighborhood, traffic was going slow <25mph

there's a decent climb here, but the main purpose of this detour are the pet horses that someone has in their yard. Are we still in Philly?

back on main st. slow going with traffic lights.

I didn't include it in this route but if you want more bike path, it continues north following Lincoln Dr. It is very pretty, goes through some trees with the canal (creek?) between you and the road. It eventually dead ends a few miles down lincoln dr. Due to hills/corners/other cyclists/pedestrians it's not a good place to go really fast, >20mph gets a little dangerous.

it's about here that you get on the bike path that follows Kelly Dr. At this point it is a sidewalk and may be hard to recognize, you might be able to follow Kelly Dr if traffic allows, then get on the bike path when it's wider.

The rest of the route follows the bike path along Kelly Dr. There are several places to park along here, as well as porta johns (BYO TP). Due to other cyclists and pedestrians, this is not a good paceline area, but decent enough for a warm up and cool down.

You can park somewhere in here and do the route out and back.

Route Details

Hilly training route starting at Rt 23 and I-76/476 with the last several miles flat & easy on the bike path in Fairmont Park. Tries to stay off main highways and get into the neighborhood for a good hill workout. Not a very good pace line ride, but good for soloists or riders not intent on drafting.
