This is a very pretty little canyon - I think its underrated, and I am always surprised at its beauty when I ride it.
A More peaceful spot to rest before you do the return trip might be 1/4 mile back down Manastash Road at the bridge over Manastash Creek. There's lush shady vegetation, the coolness of the air that hugs the creek, the burbling of the water, and a parade of busy birds.
OK, I know it ain't the descent of the Col du Galibier, but headed back down the canyon it's still fun to get down on the drops and pretend you're Eddie Merckx!

A ride through farms and ranches and then up a very pretty little tributary canyon of the Yakima river! The canyon is filled with wildlife - birds, coyotes, deer, ground squirrels, elk, snakes, and, sources tell me, even the occasional mountain lion! This Kittitas Valley loop ride starts and ends in Ellensburg at the corner of University Way and Walnut.
