Machias to Barlow Pass via Mtn. Loop Highway
by interstate-racer

The way points of this bicycle route:

Machias

Start ride from Machias trailhead on Centennial trail, approximately 5 miles North of Snohomish following, Maple, S. Machias and Division Street. Exit parking lot right onto Division and back to S. Machias to begin ride

Right over bridge onto OK Mill Road, narrow shoulder, light traffic, moderate hills to Granite Falls

Left onto Newberg for less traffic, more moderate climbs, good roads

Bear right onto 48th and around Bosworth lake to Granite Falls (Pilchuck Tree Farm Rd also works)

Right around Bosworth Lake (Left works as well, slightly longer)

Right uphill to leave lake and head towards Granite Falls

Straight at stop sign to merge with Granite Falls - Pilchuck road

Continue into Granite falls, road changes name to Robe-Menzel

Granite Falls

Lots of stores, rest, resupply options, right through downtown or straight to skip downtown.

Left on Mountain Loop Hwy

Steepest Mt. Loop Hwy hills in early miles leaving Granite falls, Shoulders silty and sandy in spring, but not bad and traffic not heavy

Ride gets real pleasant in Mt. Baker National Forest, cool on hot days and mostly camping/boating traffic. Road flattens substantially

Silverton

A few rest/resupply options, but not much

Barlow Pass

End of pavement and start of winter road closure.
