Start and finish: Basecamp MTB on Grantown-on-Spey main street. NJ 034280 Map required: OS Landranger 36: Grantown, Aviemore and Cairngorm Mountains Summary: Mainly singletrack or fireroad but the Dreggie section will test your technical skills 1 Start at Basecamp MTB shop, turn SW on main street, take first right up to church. Turn left then next right up past campsite. On old railway get on trail, follow blue marker posts through forest. Drop down to railway, then follow trail back to Grantown. Instead of turning left to church, go straight across main street. 2 Follow road until it turns to track, follow forest singletrack that bears off to left. Pop back out and follow signs for Speyside Way through Anagach and over River Spey. Follow thistle signs along riverbank on old railway. Keep following to Nethy Bridge. 3 Pop onto singletrack road at Nethy Bridge. Turn left, climb to main street, turn right, then left at Spar shop. On left, riverside trail heads off after approx 100m – follow that. After 1.5km turn right before narrow bridge, then left on main track. At T-junction, turn left past Forest Lodge, then next right over bridge. Turn right again after 400m and climb up for 2.5km, stay left at junction. Follow singletrack on left. 4 Turn hard right at bottom. Follow through two river splashes up onto grassy track across moorland. Stay left at fork. Cross moor to Bynack Beg, turn left and follow for 1.7km, take right turn past cottage at Lettoch, up into forest. Climb fireroad to crossroads, turn left and descend to Blairgorm. Turn right, then sharp left down track and over bridge into forest. 5 Climb up Craigmore Wood, turn left, drop slightly and take second right to Backharn onto B970. Turn right for 400m, at stile turn left onto singletrack. Drop down this trail – the river splash is deep! – and pop out onto the Speyside Way. Turn right and follow it back into town and the finish.by Kim MBUK
