Loxahatchee Loop

This is my first attempt to put together a good loop to Loxahatchee Wildlife Preserve from East Boca Raton. It starts with some pretty straight-forward suburban riding south to SW 18th Street. SW 18th is a pretty tight one-to-two lane rip almost all the way to 441. Both I-95 and the Tpk are overpass hills on this route. Once you get to 441 you only deal with the 441 madness for a mile or so south before linking up with Hillsboro West. It consists of a wide, flat, straight double-lane road (two both ways) with a large median to divide traffic. There are Spanish Oaks lining the road providing some scenery. Once you get to Lox Road the trek turns into a two-lane country road (one lane each way) with little-to-no curbside. There isn't a ton of traffic (dead-end), but what does pass on the slim lanes is usually 10-tons with something in tow. There is a horse ranch (or two?) which is sort've cool. Road ends at at the preserve. I took Hillsboro East back, pretty wide bike lanes virtually the whole way. Hillsboro has a bridge over the turnpike, but ducks under 95. I will take this trek a few more times but will likely tweak it each time to see something new. by bobby_fishtrunks
