The way points of this bicycle route:
This route starts at the Lilyfield Light Rail station (end of the line from the City). The route goes via Glebe Point , but another way is to go via the Anzac Bridge cycleway. You could come back that way.
Whites Creek cyclepath joins Brenan St here on the right. Goes all the way south to Parramatta Rd at Macquarie St.
leave Brenan St and take path under the Light Rail bridge to The Crescent.
Turn right here along footpath. Or, to get to the Anzac Bridge cycleway, turn left, cross The Crescent at the lights and then follow foot/cyclepath alng the City West Link to the pedestrian/cycle overbridge at Victoria Rd. The Anzac cycleway starts over the bridge.
At Johnston St use the lights to cross The Crescent into Chapman Rd
Follow road around the back of the timber yard and behind the children's playground and then use path to get to the footbridge over Johnstons Creek. watch out for dogs and dog owners, particularly early morning and evening. Great views of the Anzac Bridge.
Take diagonal path across the park to corner of Eglinton and Northcote Sts, then up short steep hill to Glebe Pt Rd.
turn right onto Glebe Point Road.
then left into Leichhardt St. It is one way, so on return leg use Stewart St.
follow Leichhardt St down to Blackwattle Bay foreshore path ( currently being reconstructed by the Council). Will soon be able to get all the way round the foreshore to Glebe Point and the Park.
Follow path to the end near the Rowing Club
follow Ferry Rd to Taylor St and turn left.
At Bridge Rd turn left. Bridge Rd can be busy at times so use footpath if you wish. Watch for trucks exiting driveways, and for pedestrians. The Fish Market is ahead, so drop in and have a seafood lunch.
At the Fish Market you can use the footpath around the south and east sides and use the pedestrian lights to cross the busy intersection under the flyovers.
The direct way is to follow Pyrmont Bridge Rd under the flyovers and up to Harris St but a detour to the left onto a dead end street to Miller St is a little less stressful. You can also go through the Fish Market car park to get to the foot of Miller St, and use lights to cross Bank St. From here you can also access the Anzac bridge Cycleway via Saunders St (look for the Channel 10 TV Company Building).
At Harris St there is a bike crossing into Union St, which is a restricted access road (bikes only in this section). Follow Union St to rejoin Bridge Rd. Cycle lanes end here. On the return trip you have to use the footpath outside the Pub on the corner, between Murray St and Union St, or brave the confusing intersection.
At Murray St, at the start of Pymont Bridge, cross over onto the paved area leading to the bridge (it is a shared bike/pedestrian area) and ride carefully across to the City. It can be crowded with tourists.
At east end of Pyrmont Bridge you can turn left and follow a shared path alongside the freeway to corner of King S and Sussex St. Alternatively use the escalators to go up to a footbridge that leads to Market St.
No cycle lanes in the City from this point, but most roads are cycleable - just take care. At foot of King St use lights to proceed either straight ahead up King St or left along Sussex St. Sussex becomes Hickson Rd, which will get you to the Rocks area , Sydney Theater Company, or a bit further around under the Harbour Bridge lower George St and Circular Quay.
At Towns Place you can turn left to get up to Argyle Place and Observatory Hill, also to the Harbour Bridge Cycleway. Or follow Hickson Rd around under the southern end of the Harbour Bridge.
Admire the old wharves (now being converted to expensive housing) and the Harbour Bridge from underneath.
From here you can explore The Rocks, Circular Quay or go round to the Opera House. Also hop on a ferry (bikes are free) to see the Harbour.
footpath
Botanical Gardens on left. Riding bikes not allowed but you can wheel them and have a look around.
Good views of the harbour and Opera House.
Steps down to Lincoln Crescent
Right turn up Wylde St (steepish).
Cross at lights. Use bus lanes on Oxford St downhill to City
Cross into Tumbalong Park on bridge or use lights. Cyclists are OK in Darling Harbour, just go sensibly and give way to pedestrians.
At the Murray St intersection go through and prepare to get into the right lane on Bridge Rd. There is a gap in the median shortly after the intersection so cyclists can turn into Union St.
Right into Saunders St. Use gap in median just before lights. Watch for traffic both ways.
Channel 10 on left.
Spiral ramp up to Anzac Bridge. Watch for cars left and right and exiting from building and other cyclists coming down off the ramp.
Bit of a climb up to the deck and more to come to the middle of the bridge, then a downhill.
Take care at the bus shelter that blocks half the path.
Nice downhill.
New overbridge on left is useful alternative if going to The Crescent and Whites Ck. Watch for cyclists cutting across your path on this corner, though.
Pedestrian overbridge over Victoria Rd. It is a bit narrow and steep.
Lilyfield rd is part of the regional Cycleroute to Parramatta.
