The way points of this bicycle route:
Leichhardt Town Hall
Busy intersection. Cross Parramatta Rd into West St, which has a cycle lane
There is bicycle access into West St through a road closure.
No traffic lights on this street at NC Rd so use footpath carefully to next corner (Dulwhich St) and use those lights to cross NC Rd. Then first left into Loftus. Alternative is to use Denison Rd instead of The Boulevarde and come out on NC Rd at Constitution Rd, where there are lights.
Join Cooks River cyclepath here. Go right to Homebush or cross the footbridge if going to Tempe and Brighton. Might as well go home a different way.
Cross Wardell Rd at a refuge crossing and get onto the cycleway through Beaman Park
Cross Illawarra Rd at a refuge. watch for traffic on your right.
On north side of the River turn right onto the path through Steel Park.
At Tempe statiom car park you can continue to Brighton and Cronulla/Kurnell under the railway line next to the water or head back to Leichhardt.
This is the direct route. Some traffic on Victoria and Sydenham Rds and watch out for doors opening. There are alternatives on quieter back streets up to Stanmore Station but debatable if any better.
Right here at lights. Goes past Wilkins Primary School
Right at Audely St, (Shaw is steep and busy)
Crystal is busy but fairly roomy and slightly downhill heading north, so no probs if you take care. A bit of footpath work may make it easier for the traffic shy. You could detour via Fort St or Croydon St/Railway St and Renwick St.
Room at head of left turning lane to store until the straight ahead phase goes. Cross Parramatta Rd into Balmain Rd. Watch for motorists trying to squeeze you on entry to this narrow road. There is a bike lane up to Leichhardt St (Marion St).
There is a bike lane down Balmain Rd to Leichhardt St.
Back at Town Hall. Neat, eh? Note that Balmain Rd is one way in that section so you cant do this route iexactly in reverse. You could use Renwick St and Railway St/Croydon St to get to Crystal St, or Catherine/Phillips/Charles/Westbourne.
