The way points of this bicycle route:
Start at railway station. Local shops across rd from station. Includes general store. Open from early until 8pm
Rt into Todds Rd
Left into Ellis
Through round-about
Left onto Samsonvale
Rt into Livingstone
Rt into Leitchs Rd
If traffic bothers you cross over to gravel bike path on the northbound side as there is no shoulder on this section of the road
Leitches Rd is interrupted here. ie it doesn't exist. But the little trip through the cow paddock and across a ford is a nice change from the road. It is a cement path (entry via sprung hinged gate beside cattle grid) in good condition. YES there are actually cows. It floods and is impassable if there has been heavy rain though. Use my Lawnton to Taringa Route 1 if this is the case (just double back to South Pine Rd and turn west/left, and stay on South Pine Road, route 1 joins at the top of the steep hill in SOuth Pine Rd where Old Northern Rd joins it from the Right/North
Funny: this is "Sesame St" on the Rt, "Burt: and "Ernie" Streets turn off it!...and yes there is a kindergarten here!
Cross over Albany Creek Rd and go to the parallel service rd
Turn Rt on service Rd
Turn Left/south onto good, cement bike path. The entry is just after the houses stop and before the creek
Right Onto Devoran St
Back onto bike path here. Entry is pretty obvious straight ahead where the road does a 90 degree Left
stay on the path you are on, don't take ony of the other turns
Cross Sussex Dr to the continuation of the path on opposite side
Off bike path and south east/left onto Old Northern Rd.DON'T take the service road, take the main Rd
Pretty Hilly from here on..so some good downhills, but yep you have to earn them on the uphills. Just follow the road.
be sure to take the overpass so you don't have to go through the big round about. Check for cars coming from behind (who are heading down to the round about) as you do though...They should give way to you , but you know how it is with some drivers!
Watch over your left shoulder as you come off the overpass for cars merging from behind/below
This is the start of a good downhill, enjoy (but watch for trafic coming out on the left from Felstead St)
Everton Park Shops. Supermarket etc
Road narrows from here for a while. If you don't like traffic (can be heavy here at times) jump up onto the good path on the left, and rejoin the road once it looks OK to you. If you are training, make sure you own the lane as the path isn't a realistic option for training.
Road gets a bit wider for a little while here
Wardell St has very narrow or no shoulders so not the most enjoyable part of the ride in terms of traffic. Use the footpath if it bothers you. Or make sure you definitely own the lane (footpath is no good if you are training, just own the lane either way)
Turn Rt at the lights into Elimatta Drive
Straight ahead for a good downhill (then an hefty uphill) on Jubilee Tce
Get momentum for the next uphill.
Long juphill begins.
Veer Rt to stay on Jubilee Tce
Another sharp uphill. Check out the fantastic mosaic-ed community centre on the Left close to the top of the hill. It is worth hopping off the bike if you aren't training to look at the detail of the work and the stuff they have used!!
Follow the rd left
Follow road left. Shops including general store if you need drinks. Start of another good downhill, starts slowly but builds up. (interrupted by one roundabout at Latrobe Tce, but then it really drops!)
Go straight through round about (watch cars on left). This is the start of the increasing drop, enjoy.
if you want to see Government house you will have to detour and turn left here. You can't just go in though, just stare at the British Queen's representative through the iron gates! Interesting house oldest parts built in 1864, lots of changes right through to the mid 1980s.
Riding past Government House, wave, or make other jestures to the Governor depending on your position on the Republic.
take second exit from round about
take second exit from round about, then face a decent uphill
Start of a climb
Made it, now for the downhill...complete with Toowong Cemetry to remind you to be a bit careful!
Historic Toowong Cemetry to the West/Rt side of the road (Qld's largest cemetry. It has lots of interesting historyand memorials of interst) . Good place to look around if you are interested.
Caution very busy roundabout Take second exit into Miskin St for a climb.
Steep climb ahead
Steep hill (Miskin St) Bus Depot on West side
Made it up the climb
have to follow this dog-leg to the east/left
Now dog-leg back to west/Rt
Left into Miskin again
Left into Union
Moggill Rd. Busy.
Left into Beatrice St and through the rail underpass
No allowed to turn rt here.
Turn Rt Ada St.
