The way points of this bicycle route:
All pretty basic for the start of the commute. Good urban roads not very heavy traffic
Cross over to gravel bike path here as there are no shoulders and increased commercial traffic
Go through the sprung gate through the cow paddock on cement bike path. Pleasant interlude to the urban ride
Often loose gravel here so take care on the corner
Through the gate again
back onto the road
cross albany creek road to the service rd then turn right
bike path entry just after the end of the houses
Road again very quiet back street
back onto bike path
Cross sussex Rd to continue on bike path
Left into Old Northern Rd. Good shoulders and bike lanes for quite a while from here. Good hills from here for quite a while. Nothing huge, but good for fitness
CAUTION watch traffic behind that is heading down to the roundabout you as you go onto the overpass
CAUTION again of frafic behind and to your left that is coming up from the roundabout.
Great downhill run starts here. Careful of cars on left coming out of Felstead
Shoulders disappear now. Use footpath if the traffic is a problem
NB if you are heading outbound at rush hour, this is pretty horrible for traffic for the next few K as there is no shoulder and narrow lanes. WHY DO THEY BUILD ROADS LIKE THIS safe one way, narrow the other??. Take a look at my Lawnton to City Commute 2 for an alternative commute outbound that doesn't have this very unpleasant bit of road in it. (It's not up yet, but I'll get it up soon)
Road narrows here, but own the lane then turn left just ahead.
Back onto bike path ahead
take left turn on path that goes under the road bridge.
back onto very quiet roads
Back onto bike paths
Turn left onto the part of the path that goes up between the houses to the road
onto the road again.
Trafic starts to get a bit busier but no big deal
pretty poor bike lane here. Watch for car doors throughout and MAN HOLE COVER right here on the bend! VERY DANGEROUS WHEN WET.
Back onto bike paths
Cross the creek
Back onto roads
Laft turn to a pretty steep hill
Cross over to path on other side of Herston Rd
Turn left to cross the ICBypass
Back onto busyish roads
