The way points of this bicycle route:
Can get to Wyong by train. Trains also run from Windsor to Sydney for return. Find Alison Rd out of Wyong,
Cross over the F3 onto Yarramalong Rd.
Yarramalong Rd. Mainly flat with a few gentle undulations and some nice scenery.
There is a store, pub and a petrol stn here. Have a break before the Big Climb up Bumble Hill, which starts on the left opposite the store.
Tops out about here. Its about a 300 m climb. Check the elevation graph.
Follow Greta Rd. Forest rd on left.
Take the Springs Rd fork, to left.
Another good down and up before reaching the ridge.
Turn left on to George Downes Dr (Wollombi Rd). Watch for fast traffic.
Bloodtree Rd. Turn right.
There is a shop and cafe here on corner of Waratah St. Open most days except Sundays in winter, but does open if there is a market on on the third Sunday
Long downhill run starts. Gets steeper toward the bottom, and watch the bumps on the inside of left hand bends.
Enters National Park
Bottom of hill at Mangrove Creek. Undulating road towards Spencer.
Wyong Creek bridge. Flat into Spencer.
Cafes and store by the water. Hawkesbury River is wide here.
Undulating roada along river to Wisemans Ferry.
Shady road in winter, hot in summer.
Mill Creek. Road to camping area on right. Also a walking track in the Dharug National Park
Western Commission Track (services access road) on right goes up to the Old Northern Rd and a camp site at Ten Mile Creek. Open to bikes. (suit MTB)
Ferry across the Hawkesbury. Runs all day.
Hotel and shops. Also caravan parks nearby for camping.
Follow River Rd all the way to Sackville Ferry Rd. Mostly sealed but some gravel until Lower Portland.
Locality.
Gravel. Road climbs to a great viewing spot at the bend.
Cafe and camping here. Open on weekends.
Some caravan parks have basic facilities and supplies, if open. (some close shop in winter).
Ferry on right crosses the river to an alternative road back to Windsor or to Colo- quite hilly.
Caravan Park here on right has a shop in summer months. Nice spot by river bank. Motor vehicle drivers have to pay an entrance fee but they dont charge for cyclists if you are polite.
Climb starts. Not too steep.
Right at Sackville Ferry Rd. Watch for faster traffic.
Downhill to ferry. Watch for hard to see potholes and bumps in shady conditions.
runs 24 hours.
Tizzana Rd on left. This makes a nice detour. Rejoins the main route at Ebernezer. Some gravel to start then sealed.
Follow Sackville Rd southward. East Kurrajong Rd is on the right, up a steep hill. This is part of a good loop ride from Windsdor to Kurrajong Heights via East Kurrajong.
General store here. Does sandwiches etc.
Tizanna Rd rejoins Sackville Rd on left. Old Historic Church (1809) at end of Coromandel Rd is worth a visit- they serve tea and scones too. (http://tinyurl.com/3e3kko)
King Rd joins main road to Windsor. Shop here. Fast traffic but there is a bike shoulder lane, except for 2 narrow bridges. Can take Argyle Reach Rd as an alternative, but unsealed and muddy if wet.
Narrow bridge- only short. No shoulder so take care not to get squeezed.
Narrow bridge cross Hawkesbury. If confident, "take the lane" and maintain speed as there is a short sharp hill on other side up to Windsor. Otherwise, use cycle path on left.
Right on George St.
Pedestrian Mall. Walk through or can deviate via Baker and The Terrace
End of Mall. Shops and cafes, also pubs. Have a well earned rest before heading for station.
Windsor Station. Weekend trains at 5 mins to the hour and 25 past.
