The way points of this bicycle route:
A Sunday ride to Watsons Bay. Starts at Bakehouse Cafe, on Moore St, home of LBUG. Some good hills around Bondi, Vaucluse and Bellevue Hill. Need to be moderately fit for this one and used to a bit of traffic.
Through the S bend. Becomes Booth St. Watch for parked cars on the exit.
Watch for cars at Wigram Rd. Keep out in the traffic lane and keep speed up for hill ahead.
Bridge Rd is usually quiet on a Sunday. You can do a shortcut on Alexandra Dr.
Wait for a gap, signal and get into right turn lane. Bikes and buses are allowed to turn right here into Ross St, cars can't.
Enter university through the gates.
I did Physics here years ago.
Exit Uni at City Road Gates.
Right at Abercrombie St, or can take Wilson St too.
Right at Lawson St. Narrow St but take the lane.
Lawson St widens here near station.
Right at Regent St.
Left at Redfern St
Right on Young St
Left on Zamia St.
Deadend but bike access to Bourke St. Cross at crossing, but remember its illegal to ride on a crossing.
Look for a kerb ramp to footpath here so you can get onto a path through a small park between housing to a footbridge over Sth Dowling.
Footbridge over South Dowling St. Watch for hidden bollards.
Left on path.
Right on side path.
Right on path next to Cleveland St
Anzac Pde. Cross at lights.
Cross Bus Way with care to a wide avenue next to Lang Rd.
Enter Park via main gate. Go clockwise around Park.
Cafe and toilet here if in need of a break.
Left at Musgrave Av to exit.
Exit park onto Darley Rd. Moderate climb ahead.
Cross Carrington Rd and follow Macpherson St. For a more direct route to Bondi, turn left at Carrington and then right at Birrell St.
Top of hill. Some roundabouts to negotiate.
Steep downhill.
Pretty beach. Good cafes and picnic area. Walk or ride slowly through park and up to Bayview St.
Go up Bayview St
Right at Hewlett St
Left on Tamarama Marine Drive. Sweeping bends. Beach below.
Right on Gaerloch Av
Short steep hill. Get speed up and you might make it!
Continue on Sandridge St. Can go down to Hunter Park for views and www.sculpturebythesea.com when it is on in November.
Right at Bondi Rd. Busy street, watch for cars and make the turn. Alternatively can use the footpath on right.
Right at Queen Elizabeth Dr to gete to Bondi Pavilion.
Have a break. Cafes and toilets in the Pavillion. Sydney's most famous beach.
Exit onto Campbell Pde when traffic allows.
Military Rd. Hill starts. Long but only moderately steep.
Top of climb. Military Rd flattens out.
Great views to the west of the City and Opera House from this park. Go over to the west side.
Right on Elvira St. Follow blue bike route sign.
Right on Old South Head Rd.
New South Head Road. Roundabout. Road is flat along here past the lighthouse
Steep descent starts.
Hope your brakes work before the bottom! Sharp right turn .
Shop here sells sandwhiches and drinks.
The Gap. Famous Sydney landmark.
Cliff St. Can explore further to Camp Cove and South Head.
Watsons Bay pub is good for fishnchips or try the shop on wharf. Can take ferry back to Sydney from here.
Leave park and take Marine Pde.
Path leads up to road.
Right on Hopetoun Ave.
Right at The Crescent.
Keep going or take a diversion down to Parsley Bay on the path to the right. Need to walk bikes part of the way. Cafe at end of park. Have a swim in netted beach.
Rejoin Hopetoun Ave. Climb commences.
Another way down to Parsley Bay. Good cafe.
Top of climb
New South Head Rd. Wide road, can be busy but plenty of room. Down hill starts.
Vaucluse Rd on the right is another way to do the climb out of Vaucluse Bay.
Road flattens out. Busy shopping centre.
Left at Salisbury Rd or Beresford Rd.
Steep climb starts.
Go either way on Drumalbyn Rd up to Victoria Rd. Going right may be a little longer but not as steep.
Roundabout, then last section up to Victoria Rd. Quite a climb.
Victoria Rd. Phew! Made it.
Right at Old South Rd. Busy rd. Use left footpath if there is a jam.
Left up Paul St. Avoids Bondi Junction.
Bondi Rd. Use pedestrian lights to cross.
Path. at end of Paul St Behind a reservoir.
Path ends at Goldie St. Watch steep entry to street.
Use footpath along Birrell to lights at Council St.
Rejoin road. Choice of Birrell St or Carrington Rd to get back to Centennial Park. Birrell St is direct and fast but watch car doors in green painted bike lane. Better to keep in traffic lane.
Right at Darley Rd. Follows outward route to Centennial Park.
Enter by gate. Watch for turning traffic, not really set up for bike entrance.
Centennial Park is one way so go left.
Speed limit 30!
Kids cycle path on left.
Vary the route home if you like, by turning right at Driver Av, or follow outward route.
Left at Moore Park Rd. Traffic gets busy around here. If confident just get in the middle of the lane and go through this intersection. Otherwise can use footpath.
Take the lane and cross Anzac Pde and South Dowling St to narrow Fitzroy St. Slightly downhill so you can keep up with the flow.
Right on Riley St.
Left on Oxford St. Downhill in the bus lane makes it easy.
Cross College St. Oxford St becomes Liverpool St. Hyde Park on right.
Cross Elizabeth St and follow Liverpool St downhill to Darling Harbour.
At foot of Liverpool St cross over into Darling Harbour. Bikes seem to be tolerated through the park, please ride slowly though, or can take Darling Drive.
Find you way through to the Convention Centre and exit to Darling Drive behind the retail centre.
Busy intersection. Once through, get into the middle lane to make a right turn through a gap in median into Union St.
Right turn allowed for cyclists here through a gap in the median. Watch for oncoming traffic.
Another right turn facility for cyclists. Watch out for oncoming traffic.
Ramp up to Anzac Bridge cycleway
Great views but keep an eye out for fast cyclists.
Watch the bus shelter that blocks the path.
Left across Victoria Rd on new foot/cycle bridge.
Continue left on footpath.
The Crescent. Cross at lights.
Right on to path through small park.
Path goes under light rail line to Railway Pde.
Brenan St.
Left at Catherine St.
