to avoid riding on the shoulder of rt 9W (high-speed high-traffic) can turn Right on 1st Ave and go north on that until it rejoins the route on Route 32 North.
get onto route 9W North (lots of high-speed traffic) and ride on the reasonably wide shoulder [as of 2008]. To avoid riding this section of rt 9W, see note on 1st Ave nearby.
