The way points of this bicycle route:
There are several places to start this trail. This is Dogwood Dell parking lot. You could also start from Reedy Creek or the Belle Isle parking area among others. This trail is not one way, on this map I'm showing the south side (buttermilk) running east, and the north side (northbank) running west. Be careful of people coming the other way.
The signs read walk your bike on the bridge. Do it!
There will be two trails on your left, take the second one. There also is a sign that will say train open or trail closed. Do not ride if they are closed!
As you descend these switchbacks you will see a bridge being built on your left. The trail is being rerouted around this eroded unsustainable feature.
Here you will come up to a covered bridge that ends with a set of stairs. Be careful of broken glass in this area. Take these stairs down then follow the trail that heads east, along the fence next to the railroad.
Here is a wooden bridge over the river. Take this bridge to Belle Isle
There is a loop that runs around the island. There also are trails through the center of the island, but the signs say these are still closed.
Once you leave the foot bridge, head east on Tredager street for a short time until you see the public parking area on the left, head into that area, in the north west corner of it you will see a trail that goes up to a foot bridge. Take that trail and bridge.
After the footbridge turn left (west) on the gravel road, you will see a sign on your right in about 50 feet that says Northbank trail.
the gate here is always closed, the trail goes south around this small fence, follow it.
On your right is Hollywood Cemetery.
You can see the Japanese gardens and the statue of the old bears as you ride by. The kids love seeing bikers!

This trail runs through the heart of Richmond. Well maintained, but definitely difficult. This is a city park, please respect all rules. Do not ride the trails when they are wet or when the signs say they are closed! The trails do close at sundown.
