My wife and I rode this route in the Fall of 2010 as part of a multi-state tour. US 49 from Hattiesburg to Wiggins is a busy 4-lane highway (it thankfully now has a good shoulder however). We got off the highway as soon as possible, riding through Fort Shelby. From that point on - with the exception of a few more miles on US49 into Wiggins - the route was very rural and very scenic. North and east of VanCleave (junction of Hwy 15 and RR Bridge Creek Road), we picked up the ACA Southern Tier route into VanCleave.by colobikenut
