The way points of this bicycle route:
The Lucky Dog will be open when you get back Leave about 7-8 am.
On 6th heading out of town cross over the 464th on to Old Dump Road it turns into gravel in about a quarter mile.
Head over HY14. Schade's Vineyard is on your left just after the RR, a good place to go back to in the afternoon.
The shelter belt on the right has orioles, finches, phoebes, thrashers, etc. and there are water fowl on the lake.
Take some time on the lake, then head West over 462nd
Slow down when you get to the crest of the hill get your binoculars ready. A profusion of geese, ducks, yellow heads, common yellow throats...just ahead.
Spend some time there is more to be observed. Take a drink. Have that coffee you bought at the Casey's in Volga.
Wasn't that a cool downhill? Look up there will be hawks, harriers, egrets, herons, not to mention geese and swallows plying the sky.
This whole area is Goat Hills but the ones along here give the best views. Stop and take out those binocs.
Turn North if you want to go to Oakwood Lakes State Park. You will start seeing dickcissel on highlines and in the fields.
Rest your legs. This road is called "Outhouse Road," you'll discover why when you get to HY14.
The next couple miles are really nice. Don't hurry. If your haven't been out for a couple hours by now, your going way too fast.
you could go South a mile here and take 213th but that is for another day.
1/2 mile to the Old Dump Road
Post office is on your right on 3rd.
Brookings Country Historial Museum on the left
I show a route along the railroad and elevators. It's okay...be a child again. Oh remember the museum sign you passed on Samara. Another afternoon stop before heading for wine at Schade's.
