From Railway Estate to City
by jjberkhout

The way points of this bicycle route:

Railway Estate

Make your way to the Caltex servo on the corner of Railway Avenue and 7th Street

Crossing outbound lanes

Careful on the corner. Take the lane when crossing, allowing motorists behind you to pass you on the left. Outbound motorists use this corner to get into the servo

Median Strip

Hop onto the Median Strip and wait for gap in traffic. If traffic (3 lanes at this point) banks up for a red light, weave your way through.

Left hand lane inbound

Take the (whole) lane until the left-hand turning lane. Then take the (whole) turning lane (even if going straight on)

Turning lane

Take the (whole) turning lane (even if going straight on)

Traffic lights

If red, wait at lights. Stand in front of the line, well visible to first car in either Turning lane or Left hand lane. Stay clear of the pedestrian crossing though.

Crossing Boundary Street

On Crossing: If in the turning lane, clear the way for traffic turning left. If in the left hand lane, veer left to clear the way for traffic behind you. Pass the traffic island on the left hand/railway side.

Slip Lane

Take care on the slip lane into the city, as motorists are often pre-occupied with the level railway crossing.
