The way points of this bicycle route:
Graham Hill Road in Felton at Mt Hermon Road.
The shoulder on Graham Hill Road goes away about here. Fortunately, you can turn into the Roaring Camp Railroad parking lot here for a shortcut to Santa Cruz.
Go to the south end of the parking lot and continue on the little road to the employee parking area along the tracks.
You'll now ride right along the railroad tracks to Santa Cruz. You may want to check the Roaring Camp Railroad website for the Beach Boardwalk train schedule. The train travels very slowly, but you'll cross a couple of bridges with no place to bail, so keep your ears open!
You can cross the river on the rail bridge, or you can also cross on the hiking trail bridge below and then go back up to the railroad. Cross at your own risk!
Carefully watch for traffic before crossing over Hwy 9.
As you get into Santa Cruz you'll see more bike and pedestrian traffic along this de facto rail trail.
Turn onto Encinal to get to River Street. If you go too far down the railroad you'll get to a long tunnel which you do *not* want to share with a train!
To continue across Hwy 1 on River Street, choose the straight through lane -- there's a right turn lane you probably want to avoid.
You're now in downtown Santa Cruz. Have fun.
Welcome to Bikely, take a step by step tour of this path:
Press Start Tour - then use the navigation buttons below to move along the path.
You can get between Santa Cruz an Felton along the Roaring Camp Railroad and completely avoid Graham Hill Road. Technically it's trespassing, but the Roaring Camp people don't seem to mind. Trains must have shallower grades than cars so this is a great way to avoid steep hills on your bike. This is a popular way for many people to travel between Santa Cruz and Felton. Beware of trains, and check the Boardwalk Beach Train at the Roaring Camp website.
