The way points of this bicycle route:
Stop at store for drink and stretch.
Great old drawbridge.
This stretch of South River Road nice and quiet.
Optional sidetrip. With "lake" and riparian woodland, then open marshy area, birds abound. But road turns to gravel c. 1/2 mile out.
Beautiful. Riparian area, then open fields, marshland, and lake. Beaucoup birds. Turns to gravel road in middle section, but worth taking as a sidetrip until the gravel, about 1/2 mile from start.
Turn right. Quiet country road.
Turn right. More traffic, but not bad. Still pretty rural road.
Turn right. Winding, tree-lined, slough off to left. Birdsong surrounds. Little to no traffic.
Turn right
Rural, interesting scenery. But narrow, levee top. Watch for guys hauling boats.
Nicer alternate: Make sharp right to stay on River Rd., to avoid busy, unattractive stretch of Jefferson Blvd.
Turn right. Wide shoulder, with bike lane not too far up the road. Lots of traffic, though.
A little detour here to get on the tower bridge easier and avoid an ugly freeway interchange.
Right onto pedestrian/bike path beside east end of bridge for short distance, get onto Front St. when it parallels path on other side of hotel.
part of the mess the map program threw on. Stay on Front St. until Broadway.
Left turn. Bike lane for part of this stretch of Broadway, still keep heads-up for traffic.
Turn right just past tower, onto Land Park Dr.
Turn left
Stop for end-of-ride coffee/food? Then right on 24th St. back to Sierra 2 Center.
Et voila!
