Near the Commonwealth Pool
Suggested start point is Innocent Railway path tunnel near the Commonwealth pool. Turn left before entering the park then right towards houses. Tunnel is not obvious from the road but there are blue cycle path signs. It's downhill through the tunnel in this direction then along the cycle path to Duddingston.
An opportunity for an ice cream at Luca's.
Optional circuit around Cockenzie Power Station
Short but steep uphill
This route shows carrying bikes over the railway bridge, but there is a route just along the B1377 followed by a right turn that avoids this. B1377 can be busy. This is start of old railway path to Haddington

Various pubs suitable for lunch stop
Start of Pencaitland Railway Path. Not suitable for true road bikes but navigable by hybrids and mountain bikes without difficulty. This section is about 6.5 miles long.
Busy road crossing - take care
End of Pencaitland railway path
The route out of Dalkeith requires crossing a busy road to get onto the shared pavement.
Bikes are not allowed on the bypass - you need to cross the bypass. Take care. The route into Edinburgh is not particularly pleasant - there are cycle and bus lanes for part of it
Past the new infirmary
Again, care around this busy roundabout. It is traffic light controlled with cycle path across it, so not too bad.

A route using cycle paths where possible from Edinburgh to Haddington. Mostly quiet although some busy roads around Dalkeith. Takes in Longniddry to Haddington path and Pencaitland Railway path. Suggested start at Innocent Railway tunnel near Commonwealth Pool.
