Proceed through Dismal Swamp Canal Visitors Center, bear right onto paved trail.

Dismal Swamp Canal Trail

Dismal Swamp Canal Trail ends. Turn right (south) onto NC343 (old 17).

Cross drawbridge over canal.

South Mills

Elizabeth City

Get off the bike, stroll around Pasquotank riverfront.

Cross abandoned railroad tracks (future rail-trail)

Only S-shaped swing bridge (drawbridge) in NC

Hertford

Have ice cream cone (60 cents) at Woodard's Pharmacy

Newbold-White House: Oldest standing house in NC

Edenton

Beautiful, historic Edenton. Rent kayaks at park on W. Water St.

Windsor

Left on paved trail to York St.

Walk (sorry, no bikes) on Cashie Wetlands Walk, which loops back to York St.

South end of Cashie Wetlands Walk

Williamston

Begin Skewarkee Trail, a paved rail trail.

End Skewarkee Trail

Cross future Stokes-Pactolus rail trail. Current status: Original surface, poor drainage.

Greenville

Greenville

Turn left onto paved trail

End paved trail. Continue straight across 10th onto Forest Hill.

Continue straight onto paved trail (Green Mill Run Greenway).

End paved trail. Turn right (east) onto 5th.

Use 2nd St northbound, Main St southbound.

Waterfront on right, Visitors Center on left.

Park bike, stroll on the riverfront boardwalk. NC Estuarium offers boat ride.

Take Park Dr and 2nd St northbound, Main St southbound.

River to the Sea Bike Route essentially follows Park Av into Wilmington.

Route terminates at Wilmington riverfront. Wilmington has the largest historic preservation district in NC.
