The way points of this bicycle route:

Berkeley

Starting at the corner of McKinley and Bancroft, head south on Bancroft

Left onto Channing

Right onto Milvia

Left on Russell, take it past Berkeley Bowl

Right on Hillegass

Take a left onto 62nd to the intersection with College

Rockridge

Right onto College Ave

Left onto Chabot, take it all the way past the tennis courts

Turn right, and pass through the overpass, climbing up the hill and hook around to the left at the top to get onto Broadway

Take a right onto Broadway

Take the second driveway into Lake Temescal Park, watch out for the tire puncturing spikes at the entance/exit

Veer left onto the bike trail. Water and restrooms at the building that is overlooking Lake Temescal.

Get off the bike path onto the main road exiting to Broadway Terrace from the park

Left onto Broadway Terrace

Montclair

Go straight onto Duncan, don't turn onto Broadway Terrace unless you want a grunty ride up to Grizzly Peak!

Right onto Mountain Blvd. Follow it until you get to Park Blvd

Montclair

There is a park along the right side where you can refill water

Take a right onto Park Blvd and cross over 13. If you go all the way to Lincoln and are at Joaquin Miller, you have gone too far.

Oakland

Right onto Trestle Glen. This is a pretty fast descent through a quiet residential neighborhood - fast and fun in the early morning when nobody is around, kids and families on lawns later in the day.

take a left on Wesley, just before you reach Lakeshore. There is a refuel option here by going onto lakeshore and getting food/drink at the various stores like Arizmendi, Starbucks, Trader Joe's

Left on Lake Park, go over the highway and when you come to MacArthur, turn left and look for Athol on the right

Right on Athol

Lake Merritt

Cross 18th using the crosswalk on the left side. Go down 2nd past the Merritt diner

Left onto 10th

Right onto 5th, continue under the highway overpass, and over the train tracks. Make sure you cross the railroad tracks at right angles and don't get your wheels stuck in the track ruts!

Oakland

Right onto Embarcadero

Right on Oak

Left onto 3rd - to bailout, continue on Oak until you reach Lake Merrit BART 6 blocks away

Jack London Square Area

Follow the merge onto Nelson Mandela Parkway. Bailout here at West Oakland BART

Emeryville

Left onto Horton, take it across 40th. If you make it to Home Depot, you've missed your turn. There is food here around 40th and San Pablo. There is also sometimes a hotdog cart here on the corner, who sells gatorade

Left onto 62nd, then immediately right to ride on road next to train tracks

Left onto 65th, cross the tracks and turn right onto Shellmound

Aquatic Park

Continue into Aquatic park and take the trail to the other end. In the mornings it is pretty empty, but later in the day families are out in the park - beware of pedestrians.

Here at Bancroft, you have the option to cut the route short by simply turning right onto Bancroft and riding it all the way back to the start point.

Berkeley

take the left up to the bicycle/pedestrian bridge over 80

Left onto the frontage road. You can either take the frontage road proper, or ride on the asphalt path on the side (shared with pedestrians)

Berkeley Marina

Coffee/refreshment stand at the intersection of frontage and Unviersity

Left on Gilman, and head towards Golden Gate Fields by following the road to the right. If you smell horse crap from the stables, you are on track.

Climb up into the parking lot, cross it and descend the back

Cut across to the large parking area on the right at earliest convenient time and cut across it to Buchanan. You can also just take the path to grassy area at the end and pass through the gate to get onto Buchanan, though it will slow you down considerably.

Albany

Get onto Buchanan

Left onto the sidewalk on the bay side of the frontage rd. There is a bike path here that runs out to the CostCo on Central

Richmond Annex/El Cerrito

Either go left around CostCo or go straight through Rudin Rd. Bailout here by taking Central back across 580 and 80, past San Pablo Ave to the BART station 4 blocks away. Food here at either the Ranch99 Plaza on Pierce (take Central across the highways, and take right onto Pierce - you should be able to see the sign for "Pacific East Plaza"), or El Cerrito Plaza on San Pablo (take Central to San Pablo and turn right)

At the dog park, make sure you get onto the trailhead on the other side of the road. You can stop for water and restrooms here as well.

Richmond Marina

You can continue along the Marina Bay Trail here, but it often has slow moving, oblivious pedestrians. You can exit onto Marina Bay Parkway and follow it to Regatta and take a right onto Regatta if you want to keep up some speed.

Exit the trail here before it dead ends at the bench. Right onto the largish street, Marina Way

Right onto Regatta

take the overpass over 580 onto Erlandson

Right onto 31st

Right onto Cutting, cross the railroad tracks - don't get stuck on the track ruts!

Right onto Carlson

Left onto Portrero

Cross San Pablo and turn right onto the Ohlone Trail under the BART rail. There is a bailout here by going left on the Ohlone trail to the Del Norte BART station. The ohlone greenway is mixed use with joggers and pedestrians on it. If you want to stay on roads, go 3 blocks further on portrero to Richmond and take a right on Richmond, and take that all the way to El Cerrito BART station.

El Cerrito BART station, bailout point.

At peralta, the greenway you have to take a right to get around the corner of hopkins and peralta and then pick up the greenway off hopkins.

Exit the Ohlone greenway at Virginia

North Berkeley
